Telkom LTE, some websites won't open

This is frustrating - I'm on Telkom LTE 50GB/50GB, with the Telkom supplied Huawei router and some websites refuse to open. I thought it was my Mac computers and/or Safari web browser, but I have tried with my other 4 PC computers in the house and tried Chrome, Firefox etc and they give the same result.

When I use my cell phone using MTN as a wireless hotspot, then these sites that wouldn't open with Telkom open right away.

I am getting good speed and latency here in Richards Bay - around 40 - 50 Mbps, it's just certain websites that always hang....guaranteed.

It used to open all websites when I signed up with Telkom in August last year - this problem has only manifested in the past 2 months.

www.ebay.com - does not open
www.ebay.co.uk - opens fine (odd)
www.gearbest.com - does not open

Facebook for the most part works - but I have recently got some missing pictures in the news feed grrrr

The above is just an example. I have tried resetting the Huawei router back to factory default, and I see I have the latest firmware...still no joy. Any ideas ?

I am in Bloem, have the uncapped LTE , also for the passed 2 days some Facebook pictures dont load , Ebay does not load, also found a bunch of sites that 'dont connect' but connect through my MTN. Guess we must just 'wait' as we always do. Quick to take our money but never willing to give proper service ! What area you in ?

After connecting through my VPN , everything seems to be working. Definitely Telkom DNS problem. Such a useless company .......

Sounds like DNS. Set DNS to different dns servers and see

It's not a problem with the Telkom supplied Huawei LTE router. I have a second Telkom SIM card linked to my LTE account. When I put it in any of my tablets or phones it has the same problem with the same web sites - eBay.com does not open, but eBay.co.uk does open. Some pictures on Facebook do not open. It is a deeper problem with Telkom, and not with our equipment.

I have the same problem. I have logged 4 faults, and never heard anything back. The only temporary fix is to get a ISIGNITE L2TP VPN Static IP account. And add another router after the B315. You will then be on the IS network routing through the Telkom network, but at least everything works.

Not saying it is the equipment. Saying it is the DNS servers the equipment is pointing DNS queries to.

change your network connection dns setting to 8.8.8.8 (Google's dns) as a test

In a way I'm happy that I'm not the only one - surely Telkom must know about it then. Is there a Telkom rep on this site ?

Ranger works for Telkom. The fix has been delayed because of the holidays. It'll most likely come in the next few weeks.

Okay I have fixed it !!!!

On an Apple Mac, go to system preferences >>>>Network>>>>Location>>>>Edit Locations>>>>>click + to add a new location>>>>give a new name, home/telkom/whatever>>>>apply>>>>advanced>>>>DNS>>>>click + under DNS servers, and add 8.8.8.8, then click + again and add 8.8.4.4>>>>>OK.

You can then switch DNS servers by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, select LOCATIONS, and select your new location, or the one you had in the past with your old DNS server settings

I can now access ALL websites, and it seems snappier using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 DNS servers, which I understand are google servers.

Here is the youtube instructional video for Apple Macs https://youtu.be/bQbbJwSpqYg just be sure to add 8.8.8.8 in the first line, and 8.8.4.4 in the line below it, in the DNS SERVERS window

There are youtube videos how to do it for Windows, search youtube

You could change this on the LTE router as well. There is normally a web interface to them.

I initially said DNS is the issue and this just confirms my initial diagnosis

Yes Dave, but I have been in to my Telkom supplied Huawei router on 192.168.8.1, and have been right through all the settings, and don't see anywhere that I can set new DNS server settings. So, I have now changed the DNS server in all my computers, and made them switchable so I can switch back to the old DNS if need be.

Now, all websites are rocking. They definitely seem more responsive with 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, and no more websites failing to open.
