Telkom Media rethink

Telkom really have no clue what they are doing. Now would have been the right time to diversify away from voice or better still offer true triple play services.

But with their bottleneck approach to data services (which hinders data intensive triple play offerings) they are their own worst enemy.

Instead of getting their act together they put their tail between their legs and ran for the hills leaving Telkom Media in the lurch.

With regards to the pay tv market decoders that are not network locked would go a long way in opening up the market.

I think Telkom Media is in a far better position than Neotel. From an end-user perspective, investing in satellite equipment is far cheaper and has less repercussions in terms of cost(because most people on the other side of the line have Telscum).

As mentioned, decoders that are not network locked is all that is needed to bring stiff competition.

Telkom is still gonna comit over R5bn, not really running away from its investment. The news is always so negative. We need Telkom Media to break the monopoly of Mutichoice. I want to be able to afford to watch Tri-nations without having to be an alcoholic at a pub watching sport...:D

We have this public broadcasting service called the SABC, which we diligently pay for, and which is handing out FAT bonus cheques to all it's employees regularly, but .. because of the existance of an alternate "channel" on which to watch our beloved sport, this company - SABC - is free to not show our beloved sport.

i.e. If DSTV did not exist, SABC would still be showing rugby.

Adding more competition to the picture in our environment - where the only effect that competition has is to complicate matters, not lower prices - will not produce the desired results.

Erm .. :o .. I'm watching Argentina vs South Africa on SABC2 right now.
Seems I was heavily mistaken about SABC and our rugby.
I wonder if it's safe to assume that all international class rugby locally hosted will be broadcast live on SABC?
I wonder where to get clarification?
