Yes, but untill such time that Telkom is forced to unbundle the loop da loop, Vodacom or MTN for that matter cant really do a thing. Who needs to force Telkom to unbundle? DOC. Who runs DOC? Government. What does government want? Money. Why? To keep on driving their Mercs and take their extended families and cousins on nice holidays to Dubai. Telkom was a spectacular little cash cow form them when they still had their little fingers in the Vodacom pie. Now Vodacom have moved on and they bek@kking themselves cause now Telkom needs to fight for itself and try make money without the basically guarenteed cash flow that came from Vodacom.
 
Which brings me back to what I have been saying for a long time now... forget about LLU, DOC, etc. get the government and all their cronies out of the telecoms companies and free the market up to self regulate itself and to provide proper competition!

They can buiold their own fixed infrastructure, like they are doing anyway (Metroethernet and other business services...)

Yes, they are building their own backhaul network...which is great...but if the loop were unbundled, then Vodacom could reach right into your house and tickle your soft spot :-)

If government were playing fair, then the loop would have been unbundled, and the Mobile operators allowed to offer fixed broadband like Telkom is starting to offer mobile broadband now. Like many others have said before, we as a country paid for the copper infrastructure so we own it....OPEN IT UP THEN FOR THE COUNTRY TO USE IT!
 
In 1991 the Dept had to attach a value to all the assets that were transferred from the Govt (Dept of P&T) to the new formed company called Telkom. They were then transferred over at that value and Telkom had to pay for them.
 
And was the copper included in that?

Do you agree or disagree with LLU then moggie? Do you not think that LLU was a good thing in places like the UK then? Basically all the Mobile operators there offer fixed broadband also. Surely that can just be a good thing here? Open it up and let the market forces take its natural course? Not true?

LLU must happen. The sooner the better for everyone.

Paid for that that wasn't stolen and replaced...

FTTH is the future...
