Telkom Mobile here in 2010

yeah right....and you prob have to have a land line to qualify for mobile right? R150 fixed cost whether you use mobile/ADSL or not. LOL
No thanks telkom, i try to stay as far away as possible...

Race aside be realistic. THEY ARE F...ing us with their narrowband solutions as it is and no matter how much bitching from the public they don't change a thing.

Their 'value for money' AKA R60 a GB service for example. They have not change that have they and why, because when selling the ADSL line they hoodwink the person into signing a contract, unless the person requesting the ADSL line know any better, they sign up. Telkom claim to have 25% increase in the network traffic market, who in their right mind would pay 3X the amount for Data?

So two things:
1: don't expect it to be cheaper than the competition, that is not Telkom's style.
2: he said it would be live sometime in 2010, he also said that 10mb would be here before the 2010 world cup. I am sure that the world cup has started already, unless i am mistaken.

They are already offering mobile data cheaper than most of the other mobile operators....

Agreed on Telkom style and what they have been doing thus far, however I am in the telecoms industry and from experience etc, there is no way they can launch a network and not come in cheaper (especially being 4th or 5th (if you include Virgin) player in the market) then the existing players, they will crumble.

The differance with mobile and fixed, is they do not have a monopoly and they are not 1st to market, they gona play catch up, so they cant use those tricks in mobile.

I do not see why they cannot launch sooner actually as there is nothing needed from there side, they will be using MTN infrastructure and they already have existing telecom billing dept etc

Personally I def will not be using Telkom, the thought of calling there cust care centre if I have a query is enough to keep me loyal to the existing guys for a long time.

It wasn't MWEB's style either, but they surely shocked the market. Telkom has disappointed me numerous times in terms of customer service, not just in terms of costs. I really hate Telkom, but you never know, you know.

Nice post. The hold up is because they are establishing a totally separate FAB (fulfillment, assurance, billing) platform and there own dedicated call centre.

Well i am in Engineering, so i guess i am not qualified to comment on the operation of the Telecom's industry. I will consed that there is more competition in the mobile market, so i guess that time will tell, as to how much time will pass before we see the results, time will tell :) safe to say i will not be holding my breath.

Telkom have come a long way with regards to their customer call centre service. They aren't perfect but you can thell that they have done a lot of work improving it. I'd trather deal with Telkom than MTN any day of the week.

Is Telkom not using MTN infrastructure in its mobile network? Hope it is as moggie said and they have their own mobile call center. I do agree that their call center for broadband has improved, only get a id10t every now and again.

I must be missing something... Telkom and Neotel are supposed to be fixed line operators... with MTN, CellC and VodaCom being the mobile operators, right? Remember the war for the SNO license?? So now Telkom is going into the mobile arena, does this mean that the mobile operator can now offer fixed line services? If I were a mobile operator I'd kick up a stink, force Telkom to unbundle the LL, before they are allowed to share my network... or is Telkom giving MTN a nice deal on call termination on their network??
