Yeah, thanks for the snipping tool tip, works like a charm!

I had a cut and paste method, but was a PITA.

Any Idea how I can possibly confirm cell tower location based on the Cell ID: 0x55F800.

Tried using cellmapper software, no success.

Thanks:)

Hex to decimal conversion gives 5634048 but that doesn't look right. Should be three digits or so?

Also, did you reorganise your photobucket albums? You'll need to redo your image links as a result.

Morning Azimuth,

Thanks for the info wrt location info on cell tower,

Was messing with the photo bucket images, as when I posted them in the forum when you click on the image it goes to the photo bucket account, other members photos do not do this, tried to rectify this, but clearly have messed it up now:wtf:

Simple fix:

1. Copy the direct link URLs on photobucket
2. Enclose them in [*img] [*/img] tags here on the forms
3. Example: [*img]link.jpg[*/img]

Don't use asterisks, I've just used them so the code isn't recognised.

Some people have luck getting info from TelkomZA. I personally didn't get any information despite repeated requests.

Have called their call centre 3x, requested to speak to the technical department, however they were never available, so asked for for a call back, and left my details.

NOBODY from TELKOM MOBILE has had the decency to return the call.:mad::mad:

Incidentally, was having problems with MTN network in my area, Poor Signal coverage, logged a service request, 3 days later technician arrived, did an assessment, 2 days later I was given a CEL-FI unit, problem resolved. Now that was service.:):):)

kurtg, as an alternative entry point, you could try American Tower Company's "Site Locator" tool on their website here.
Only useful for sites owned by ATC SA, but it's a start. Telkom has equipment on some of their sites, for sure.

For instance, here's a snapshot from the site locator around Greenstone - the red and green caret symbols indicate ATC high-sites :

For more info on who ATC is and what they do, see this post..

Great tool!,

My router Cell ID: 0x55F800 converted from HEX to DEC gives me a 5634048, cant find the tower though?

Not sure if I am interpreting and converting correctly.

If you're trying to find a link between ATC's site number and the Telkom CellID shown on your router ... you're out of luck, I suspect - I don't believe there's any connection.
Remember that ATC is a 3rd party and their sites carry base station equipment from several networks, all with potentially different methods of numbering cells. In my experience the physical numbers of different operators' base station equipment don't bear any resemblance to one another. Sorry :-(

Unfortunately the tool is only useful for locating ATC sites - even then, those sites may not have base station equipment from the network operator you're interested in.

The main usefulness of seeing CellID on your router is to detect if/when the router has logged into a different cell from the one you intended.

Ok, thanks!

Beginning to see the darkness... I think its time accept my results, which by the way I'm quite happy with and just chill for a bit.

Ice cold Heineken time, I think...

Thanks to all those who assisted and contributed in the info and assistance required:):):)

Assuming the same as for GSM, see ginggs post here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/575591-The-Huawei-B593-LTE-discussion-thread/page29

Split hex number by RNC (2 digits) + Cell ID (4 digits)
RNC =0x55 = 85 (decimal)
Cell ID = 0xF800 = 63488 (decimal)

It takes one clever guy to verify above, but people with LTE equipment are resistant to learn these days. ;)
