Telkom Mobile VoLTE capable?

VoWiFi:
Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi Calling - I just enabled that.

VoLTE: Just worked out the box.
@easydevsa Telkom does seem to activate some people automatically and others need to apply. I'm in the same boat trying to get activation. Only problem is I'm in Germany currently (self isolating :). I sent a help request via the online portal but heard nothing yet. I'm back in S.A. next week so will hopefully have time while (self isolating continued)

No not yet although I am back in SA and have tried to get it activated via the online Telkom message system. Their help lines seem to have longer queues than normal. Also messages from Telkom seem imply that this sort of problem will only be dealt with after the lockdown.

That said it gets stranger. My wife and I are on the same Telkom family contact. My wife gets VOLTE and VOWiFi on her phone Huawei P20 lite. When I put my wife's SIM in my phone Xiaomi MI9 no VOLTE or VOWiFi. My German SIM however works perfectly on VOWiFi on my Xiaomi using my WiFi here in SA (airplane mode with WiFi on so as not to connect on roaming).

My SIM in my wife's phone, no VOLTE or VOWiFi but it may activate in time.
 
So can anyone then confirm if iPhones are banned from the VoWifi and VoLTE options then? I have just updated to Telkom Carrier settings (after latest ios upgrade) now saying "TelkomSA 41.0"but still no option to enable "WiFi Calling" in the menus. If I stick the Vodacom card in, then no problem with VoWiFi or VoLTE. So definitely a problem with Telkom Mobile card on "SmartBroadband Prepaid" option. I have been testing the Telkom side for a while now, and must say, I am totally unimpressed. Then again, I am disappointed with Vodacom too. Tried Online Chat with Telkom, but they cut me off eventually. Tried 180, etc. and keep getting transferred around to beginning again. So in short, Telkom Call Centre agents are no use, because nobody understands what you are asking for. Where to from here? How does one escalate this issue? When I try and escalate whilst phoning Telkom, the call mysteriously drops and you have to start all over again.

I have been trying for a while to get it activated on my telkom sim using an IPhone but have had zero luck with it. My GF is using a p30 pro and she’s got VoLTE and VoWIFI but she says it’s worse than making normal calls as the calls keeps dropping. She’s turned off the VoLTE and VoWIFI now.
 
I just talked to someone at Telkom via the very slooow Chat facility.

My Xiomi Mi9 is not yet supported by Telkom. This seems strange because it is supported by my other Network Provider. I would have thought that VOLTE/ VOWiFi are covered by GSM standards so either the device supports it or not and the network should not have to have a special solution for each type of phone.

I asked about iPhone and apparently it is supported but again perhaps your have newer variants that have not yet been implemented by Telkom.

The other interesting piece of information was that my SIM could not be enabled because my wife's phone is and only one SIM per contract can be activated on Telkom Family.

I often come away from a Telkom call not knowing what to believe. 99% of the time I'm happy with what I get from Telkom but getting Technical support is NOT always their strong points.

Does anyone know if Telkom keeps a list of actively supported phones?
 
I'm prepaid in Germany and able to use VO WiFi from here. Only one provider in Germany supports prepaid as far as I know. Ironically I'm postpaid telkom and struggling :) Hopefully by the end of the shutdown.

Yes it has some time 2021 i think, even for my xiaomi with custom rom. It is finicky though sometimes it needs to be triggered by turning the setting on and off. Can't get vowifi to work only on Vodacom.

Volte users , do you notice any additional battery consumption compared to the standard LTE ?
 
I see a VoLTE1 icon on s22 ultra but whenever I receive a call the internet drops. Any ideas?

Spent hours on the 180 number
Tried a good couple of agents via the Telkom chat ,.

They either don't know what the hell your talking about , or try to tell you how to configure it on your phone .

Yeah, spoke to 4 different agents and they still don't know what the hell VoLTE is. You mention it and there's this awkward silence as they're trying to understand what it is your talking about. While reading through this thread I saw someone posted a message in 2018 saying TM call centre agents don't know what it is. You'd expect them to know about it by now....

I have 2 TM SIM cards in my phone. One is my primary number (only for calls and SMS) the other is for data only (a data plan contract). The second SIM (data sim card) has VoLTE enabled and I can see the "VoLTE 2" icon but the primary SIM card doesn't. So, thinking it might be due to the fact that my primary SIM card is about 7 years old, I went to a TM store and did a SIM swop. It's now 2 days later and still no VoLTE on my primary SIM. I am dreading phoning the call centre again just to be told to phone a bunch of different departments without anyone having a clue what VoLTE is.

I just switched on LTE on iPhone 12 and it stays on LTE during a phone call, if calling another user on VoLTE there is a different dial tone. And there is an option for VoLTE in settings for me just cannot get VoWIFI on iPhone works fine on a S22 though

Anyone knows if VoWIFI works overseas and if it works well?
