This is standard practice for most telecommunications companies when a major event that they're supplying capacity to is on the go... All network equipment that is related to that event is put in a freeze....

Trust me, it requires an act of god to make changes to a core router in 'normal' times. You will NOT be allowed to touch that router doing the freeze unless it's failure/maintenance related. In normal time the parperwork required to make a change usually takes longer than the actual job itself and the window you are given to perform the work in is very small & in the wee hours

True though what you said. Besides Telkom has a Gold partnership with Cisco so there are stringent rules that apply especially when it comes to core routers. But those routers are treated as gold by Telkom in anycase, they do have redundancy should anything happen.

Folks, you also need to understand that the beast that is Telkom is built in several parts. The part that is working with FIFA does (read 'should') not affect consumer ADSL or ISP functionality. It's a separate entity entirely. And yes, it's under extremely strict change control at present.

I asked Telkom to upgrade my line speed from "Fast" to "Fastest" about 2 weeks ago. Still waiting.....

You only have another 3 weeks to wait. It took them just over 5 weeks to get me to "Fastest".

The word "Fastest" is not intended as an adjective for their service

It is possible that they ran out of port capacity, which would mean another DSLAM, which means a network change. The feedback you got could be right.

I am in the same boat as Maddmatt. Could you maybe clarify please? I already have the adsl line and have been using it. So my understanding was that it was just a billing change.

Ive been on the boycott of the FIFA World Cup for months. FIFA operates like a damn country and have more rights than South Africans.
