Telkom network freeze - do we need to worry?

Telkom's network freeze is only for Telkom.

No upgrades to software or maintenance or replacement of any part of the network and i almost forgot
NO TRENCHING to ensure that nothing is cause for concern.

This is how telkom has things set up.

Stadiums - Durban - Cape-Town - Johannesburg - ? - ? - ?

Fibre from Stadiums to Broadcast centre carrying the Games LIVE - No internet Traffic on this LINE.
From Broadcast centre to the rest of the world ViA Satellite and Sat 3 for Redundancy at the Same Time.
The guys Operating the Switching will do it so fast you will never notice it from Satellite to Cable.
For Redundancy - Sat3 Cable will be 3secs Faster than Satellite Broadcast if the Need be


International Throughput on Sat3 will be reduced only slightly that you wont even notice it.:)

During each game for the 90 mins only. Thereafter the Full Pipe is given to you guys for Torrents:)

Dont fuss about it because you will never ok if you sharp might notice it during the Games:)

Can those of us who are not able to get 4MB be getting any line speed upgrades?
 
i have been waiting for them to install a line for over a year now nearly two, so they can freeze themselves.
 
Darn! And I need to move my line to new flat beginning July!

Will I be able to claim back from telkom since I'll be stuck without a line? (it's a contract)

The freeze will NOT impact residential customers, unless you want a Martis Node installed in your study.

Your line transfer does NOT involve a technician having to gain entry to an exchange building. Hence it is a case of your request hooked up somewhere in some useless Telkom arsehole's email inbox.

The line transfer also involves an upgrade in line speed though. Maybe that adds to the delay? I dunno, I'm just sick of what seems like a completely unnecessary wait.
