Telkom price increase coming

Which tariffs, other than the ones mention in the advert, are being increased?
The increases are:
Line Rental / "Telkom ADSL tax" R166 to R189 increase of R23
Weekender Plan from R187 to R206

The article mentions they were increased in 1 Aug 2014, and will increase again 1 May 2015 by 14%
That's only 8 months ago, not a full year - so that works out at 21% per year.
Unjustified - where is ICASA when you need them?

3,531,000 land lines x R23 per month => R81,213,000 per month => R974,556,000 per year.
Are your phone call quality any clearer?
Are there any less dropped calls?
Are there any additional features on your line?
Are service levels from Telkom better?
Is the Telkom call centre any better?
Does this justify R974.6m increase?
Money for nothing.

IIRC, it's generally cheaper to call from 1c/sec or Sim-Sonke than Telkom Land Line.
eg. From Telkom to Telkom 63.2c and 130.4c to Cell (Aug 2014 Tariff)
*Telkom calls are charged in increments of one minute for the first minute and in increments of 30 seconds thereafter, whereas 1c/sec is per sec billing.

I see that Telkom Tariffs were increased a mere 6/7 months ago, if they are increasing 14% in 6 months, is that 28% PA?

14% increase and then another 14% is not 28%. The second 14 is on top of the first 14.

The common denominator is government interference. Governement cannot be a player and the regulator, especially where the company is listed on the stock exchange... In Telkom's case they must sell their shareholding ASAP.

Sept 2014 numbers

ADSL subscribers = 965 046
Telephone line rentals = 3 531 000

And how many of that are rural clients and/or prepaid? Those who are non prepaid are getting hit the hardest! Why exactly is it that ADSL users cannot utilize a prepaid line? The same infrastructure is still used?

Sept 2014 numbers

ADSL subscribers = 965 046
Telephone line rentals = 3 531 000

What is included in the telephone line rentals figure besides POTS (ISDN, Diginet)?

How many non-ADSL subscribers are there? Is it as simple as 2 565 954 or is there a more complicated calculation?

And how many of that are rural clients and/or prepaid?

Fixed access lines - 3 531 000
-- Post-paid - 2 346 000
-- Post-paid (ISDN channels) - 719 000
-- Pre-paid - 405 000
-- Payphones - 61 000

Why exactly is it that ADSL users cannot utilize a prepaid line? The same infrastructure is still used?
Prepaid works off an Intelligent Network platform separate from the normal network. The link cannot be split away from the switch to the DSLAM at exchange level. The prepaid link must go via the switch to the IN platform.
