Telkom price increase coming

How come this is happening now?

Has anyone contact ICASA to see where and when this application happened?

Telkom said in communications to subscribers that while “landline rental has gone up, you can enjoy unlimited calls if you move to the Evening & Weekend plan for only R17 extra per month”.

As if people actually use a landline for making calls these days. These idiots know the only reason people have landlines is for ADSL, so they can afford to offer these stupid voice call promotions which no one will use.

Not sure how I feel about this. Currently on the evening/weekend plan. No harm done I guess?

Unfortunately it appears to be a way of getting standard subscribers to move onto the higher packages.

So enjoy Helkons' usual logic. "We will increase your line rental by R23 but for an extra R17 you will enjoy free weekend and evening calls.... no cell numbers....landlines only". Because our support is important to them :D

Shouldn't affect me on my R899 package :p

+1

*If this means you guys are gonna help fund them bringing Fiber to where i am, bring on the increases :p.

I know they usually file for basket price increases August, wonder why so early? If anything, that free 2>4Mbps upgrade may just be on its way now...

Like we have a choice.... just another thing to suck up and pay..

I tried to cancel my line 3 months ago, was told I'll be on an incoming calls only package and keep my number. Was still charge full price though. I have now disputed my account 3 times. I've escalated twice. I've tried every possible communications channel with Telkom (10210, Facebook, Twitter, Contact Us etc) Nobody willing to provide answers.
Finally called cancellations, 30 minutes on hold mind you. Cancelled.

500% share price increase....

I'm wondering if this latest price increase will enable me to insist that Telkom upgrade the current maximum ADSL speeds at my local exchange from the current max of 4 Mbps to 10Mbps

... Then I woke up :crying:

That copper infrastructure is not getting any younger, only older and more expensive to maintain. Sheesh.

They could have nabbed the local VOIP market over a decade ago if they had begun the move to fiber quicker.

This is fcking ridiculous, at least for me, because I only pay this because I am forced to pay it in order to use VDSL

We continue to extensively invest in infrastructure to

I guess their "extensive investments" is why I am only able to get an unstable 4MB ADSL even though I am 200 meters from an MSAN and 2 kilometers from one of their high profile FTTH deployments.

I will gladly pay for an 20 Mbps VDSL line. But continuing to pay good money for a crappy unstable 4Mbps service is getting more and more of a drag. And they cannot even give a timeframe of when upgrades will happen. I do hope that Telkom realizes that a) increasing prices b) while effectively offering less-and-less value c) and having products that they cannot physically actually sell to willing buyers is not a recipe for growth.

It's actually a great recipe for growing their existing fixed-line market when they hold all the monopoly cards
