Telkom Reply: Your feedback needed

@RPM: I agree, have the meeting, but insist (politely ask might be better?) that Papi be there.

@willirob: Link please?

but make it conditional on them providing you with a synopsis of what they want to tell you/discuss, promising that you will do the same.

If they are not willing to provide that, then you can back out of the meeting as it would seem obvious (to me) that they are just planning on performing the usual sing and dance.

This seems like an excellent idea and would prove willingness on both parties. You should however also stress the factor that you are not paid(unlike them) to attend meetings to listen to their waffle

RPM, the wisest thing is to set up a meeting with telkom. Once a meeting is set up you can then ask them the questions you have asked already. It seems the problem is you are dealing with a very oldschool style of management with reagrds to Telkom. ie. (they like to do business the way business was done in 1950's)

wtf they are talking about relationships is beyond me. Perhaps Telkom should take step back and understand that the world has moved on. Younger people do business in a different manner to what telkom think is the correct way of doing business.

Another thing that bothers me is Telkom seem to be talking as if they are doing you and My Adsl a favour. IMHO, telkom are just full of **** and as usual will stall anything to the nth degree.

to Telkom.

Wake up and realise that your days ARE numbered, because the old are getting older and the younge will soon be in the helms of power and perhaps then we can see a breath of new millenium management in what seems to be a stagnated and oldschool style of management.

You know what RPM... My suggestion is go to the meeting.
But dont be all nice and handy and dandy. Tell them straight up. If you not going to change anything. Then we pretty much going to damage their image as much as possible.

We offered a helping hand... They turned it away. Now its time to play hard.
Fight fire with fire. They dont want to listen to our honest appeals for better products. Then tell them that we are pretty much declaring war on them. RPM... you have nothing to loose if you say that to Telkom...
Stand up to them. Make your voice heard. And we'll take it from there.

Go to the meeting, listen to their drible drabble, and then tell them that they are in no ways customer centric, and that we are going to expose them for their lack of vision, profiteering, "lies" about being customer centric to every single media medium out there. TV, Newspaper, etc....

I am tired of hearing all this "WE ARE ENGAGING WITH TALKS WITH TELKOM.... THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT...."

I might aswell hold my d*ck in my hand wait. I'll get more value out that then talking to TELKOM!!!!!!!

Yes, have a meeting ASAP, but have an independent party take minutes of the meeting. If Telkom and MyADSL approve the minutes, then that can always be referred to when making/defending media statements.

That's an excellent idea! I just hope Telkom don't take it as something that will be negative to forming a posative "relationship".

@ RPM:

Here is the reply that I suggest...use it, don't use it :)

"Thank you for your email. I am a little surprised at your tone however, the response that was made to your invitation was a perfectly reasonable request for an agenda and commitment from Telkom towards a mutually beneficial solution to what the MyADSL forum members consider a serious problem. Since these members are also Telkom's customers, I would expect that the "customer centric" approach would be to supply this information.

With reference to your comments that you would like to grow the relationship with MyADSL, I would like to point out that, at present, MyADSL has no relationship with Telkom. Having a relationship would entail an exchange of communication between the two parties. Since this is not happening at present, it would probably be better to talk about creating the environment in which a relationship could be grown.

With regard to the meeting, we are happy to have this on any of the following dates and times, but would like to reiterate our request for an agenda, and a commitment from Telkom that some action will be taken to address MyADSL members' concerns within a reasonable time frame. Without such a commitment, it seems unlikely that the meeting could serve any purpose other than supplying content for your corporate communications team to use for media and PR "spin". <insert convenient dates/times here>.

MyADSL is committed to enabling affordable broadband communications in South Africa, and we would like to feel that Telkom shares this vision.

Best Regards,

............"

....oh yes, and "I am" is two words....

I would tell them to get lost.

These people are also just humans with 2kg of hot crap inside of them. They also wear underpants. They also pick their noses. They also have strange habits and irritate people. They are nothing special - at all. Just because they have protected employment at a state-owned monopoly does not mean they can abuse people the way they do.

I would also advise them to go back to Std 6 and pay more attention to the specific aspects of grammar and spelling as they are totally atrocious and entirely unbecoming of people who think so highly of themselves.

Until they have a more conciliatory approach it's a lost cause IMHO. Fackem.

Hi guys

Thanks a bunch for all the feedback.

I think a possible solution that will create complete transparency and alleviate many of the problems will be to conduct this meeting through email. In this way all of us can give input and decide on what the best route is to take. Everything will also be on record for future reference.

Comments? Ideas?

RPM

rpm, the problem with email is that it is easy to hide behind and not give the truth. If you are face to face then it is not that easy to defer the answers you really want as they do not have time to think about it and come up with some "business type "reply as they have done.

Great Idea... But in all honesty i dont think we will gain much benefit out of that....

Telkom arent going to change anything until they are forced to. We should rather focus our energies into "forcing" them to change. Instead of "asking" them to change. Talking has proven worthless over the last 10 months. What makes you think its all of a sudden going to work?

It's an old tactic, telkom are going to pressure the relationship until we can't take it anymore when ever we turn to protect ourselves they'll ask if we don't trust them, if we continue on they'll just drag thier heals, they win both ways.

I think take it as "we don't trust you, we would like to, but we don't. Prove it so that we can". We are the customers why should we groval? I think ditch the *****-footing around, and ask them to deliver, then go to the papers with 'telkom once again full of hotair'.

Bugger this, they've had 5 years to sort themselves out.

What would a 2 page advert in the sunday tribune cost? with 'we hate you telkom, from your customers' printed on it?

A meeting tomorrow with results is the maximun you should consider. If not antitrust will make its voice heard clearly within a week (and I mean really clearly and really publicly Telkom... nice media coverage public :)

Telkom practices extremely dodgy corporate governance and highly anti competitive practices, and enough is enough. The shareholders can only **** the south african public for so long. We will let everyone know.

PS... Im looking for a list of shareholders for Telkom (appears Telkom has missplaced theirs)

Send Papi the message you received and ask him if he endorses the content.
Decide what to do after Papi has given his response.

This was a rude and arrogant letter to clients.
This is a very good idea to put everything in the open.
As per meeting it is a waste of time until everything is in the open.

I think face to face is the only way to conduct this meeting that way statements can be clarified if you are not satisfied, and the idea of taking minutes is very very good. Let this be their last chance for redemption and let them know that if they cant convince you they are willing to look after their customers and South Africa as awhole from this meeting then we will have to react appropriately which will be at a heretofore unprecedented intensity that will melt their eyebrows off.
