I have a Telkom Mega W100 router. Used to work nicely.
So on Tuesday, my dsl line dies (found out why and fixed - some dumb Telkom a$$ decided to suspend the line for no reason).
So its turned back on - DSL and internet light is green - which means its working.
But now my wireless light comes on when i restart the router, but then goes off.
So i decided to try Lan cable - light comes on - but i cannot connect or logon to router.
Tried resetting, restarting...

Then i plugged in the USB cable and hooray i am back online.:)
But Lan and wireless does not work (looked at settings... could not see why). It used to work perfectly while i never change anything.
Any ideas on What is happening:confused:
I downloaded a firmware update, will try on weekend, but how can these connections just die.
Do i have to buy another router (pls not cos i have to buy another hardrive soon thanks to my SAOL uncapped).

how are you going to flash firmware if you can't logon to router?

i had a problem with mine where it would not connect to telkomsa or email. all other browsing was fine. after numerous headaches and dead ends, the solution was to re-enter the username and password which i obviously had not changed in the first place. just a thought.

Tried everything, reseting, restoring...
The connection from the router to the internet is 100%.
But my computer cannot connect to the router via lan or wireless (but can thro USB).

Tried googling... its seems that this anomaly could only happen on a telkom router.

Did you try giving yourself a static ip? The DHCP might be acting up or your PC(s) might not be picking it up for some reason.

Under TCP/IP settings of your Lan connection:
ip: 10.0.0.5 e.g. (anything above 10.0.0.2)
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 10.0.0.2

If this doesn't work, then try borrow another router or take this one to another location or try another PC.

Yep, tried that (u say above 0.2 - does that include 0.2).
Haven't tried another computer for lan, but the wireless is bust as my phone nor PS3 can pick it up (as mentioned, the light comes on for a few seconds then goes off).

I would rather suggest leaving the pc on dhcp, and then going to command prompt and typing ipconfig
there is no way to determine what the defualt dhcp range is? 10.0.0.x /24 might be the default but you cant guarantee it?

if the output of the dhcp gives u a Link local address (169.254.0.0/16 ), u know the DHCP is not working
if u get an address, then try ping the router.

if all else fails, take it to a telkom direct store and let them test it for you. you might be lucky and sneak a warranty.

Good idea.
But, its more than 2 years.
Thing is though - took a telkom phone and router when i signed up.
Used it for 5 months then had disconnect cos of move.
2 yrs later, i am back online.
Phone does not work, asked telkom, nothing...threw it away.
Now router problems.
The good thing is, i never play for the router.
During that time i signed up, telkom had problems with adsl installations, so offered a free router if u do a self install (no contract, its free).
So took that option, then moved over to cybersmart after a month. So scored a free router.
Sometimes things are just 2 good to be true.

Have you done the quick setup in the router software? If you did the resetting thing, you lost all setting and it went to factory settings. you might need to phone telkom adsl for setting up the router again, They need to reset it from their side.

I did reset before (lost password) and never had a problem starting up again. Plus with SAOL and not Telkom (remember the router connects to the internet perfectly). I just thought there may be something that i am missing.
I am taking my work laptop to check today.
