Telkom/SAIX hosts speedtest server

Try the pingtest.net; I get an D grade with international servers:
"Concerning. Most online applications will not perform well but should function in some capacity. Try testing to other servers to verify the result. You might need to contact your ISP for help."
You might need to contact your ISP for help. - Hilarious!

And only a B grade when testing from cpt to jhb.

This is exactly what I am talking about - this new server may reveal some poor routing, connectivity problems and the like. It will certainly help the industry.

they need to install a speedtest server to show they have poor routing? Doest quite make sense :)

I'm sure that telkom have ALL the network tools they need to resolve poor routing, connectivity problems etc etc

a speedtest server is just a vanity thing

@crazybob

odd... i wonder if its my afrihost account?

Yes it is, you are first routed to JHB over the IS IPC and then back to CPT. Since the IPC (think adsl interconnect) costs are so ridiculously high IS can't add a CPT IPC pipe and still compete against Telkom wholesale.

3ms ping :) I doubt the server is under load.

This server however has been up for about 2 weeks now though so the news is a bit late but none the less I guess it helps those that didn't know about it.

27Mb/s
277ms ping

in cape town, using IS 10gig account

I think my astaro firewall has the file in cache!

speedtest to jhb server = 35ms ping, 21.5mbs down, 15.5mbs up
speedtest to cpt server = 36ms ping, 9.1mbs down, 7.1mbs up

I'm in Pretoria

Big difference

My ping is 16 to Cape Town and 76 to Jhb... Not to bad:
