This wont make my internet any faster. It just means less latency to the speedtest server.
Yes. Why wouldn't you? It's the best way to test the speed of YOUR line without putting another 6000+km of other possible factors in the wayWTF. Does anyone really care about this?
Previously it was not possible to Cape Town based speeds – now it is. This is a positive development, and although it will not bring the petrol price down it does not mean it is bad news…So what? This wont make my internet any faster. It just means less latency to the speedtest server.

odd... i wonder if its my afrihost account?
This is exactly what I am talking about - this new server may reveal some poor routing, connectivity problems and the like. It will certainly help the industry.speedtest to jhb server = 90ms ping, 3.44mbs down, 0.38mbs up
speedtest to cpt server = 573ms ping, 2.4mbs down, 0.28mbs up
and im in somerset west, so the cape town(closer) speedtest server gives worse results than the JHB server...
so no, this doesnt actually mean anything
