Telkom/SAIX hosts speedtest server

international tests are the problem...

over and above that the www.pingtest.net on international servers is the TRUE test. If you score an 'A' there then you know you're good.

Welcome to use my house to host the Gauteng server ;)

The joke is on you

And Telkom is laughing all the way to the bank, because you're paying around R1 in bandwidth each time you run a speed test - and now it doesn't cost them a thing!

To think how bad you feel tipping R1 extra to a poor car guard who's been braving the weather... or a waiter who's had to eat up all your crap.

 FREE LOCAL BANDWIDTH TELKOM! HELLOOO....
OR DROP THE COMPULSORY PHONE LINE FEE... OR THE FIXED ADSL FEE... YOU THIEVES.

Yes I know I'm a Chop :p .....

My PC is also connected 2 my core home network via 1Gbit Ethernet, 2 bad it breaks out on a 512k WiMax :p

I've been wondering since I first saw this article what it was that bothered me about it. Now I've realised. Hands up all the ISPs who have a 1 Gbps connection to SAIX. There really is no point in this kind of speed on the server, when the majority (and an increasing majority, if you look at some of the traffic trends) aren't connected directly to SAIX, or even indirectly through links anywhere close to this bandwidth. What we need to do is move the server to a network that has proper national peering and international connectivity. For anyone who's ever had to deal with SAIX, you'll know that's it's not them.
