Telkom says it is ready for uncapped local bandwidth

It will be interesting however, to see if Internet Solutions comes to the playing field on this, since the article mentioned only SAIX accounts having this "Uncapped" service.

That would be so arb. I already have a local only prepaid and an international prepaid account. So I already have the differentiation between the bandwidth. There is hardly any locally hosted content because a lot of the guys host overseas. So for every meg of local bandwidth I use I can easily use 100 megs on International bandwidth. Even my e-mail (Gmail) is international traffic. Although more locally hosted content might be available if guys had a lot of local bandwidth to burn??? I can't see them giving us anything for nothing. Hopefully local bandwidth costs come down but I don't know if that would make much of a difference to me personally. I need the price of international bandwidth to drop!

If they say it's uncapped, but pay-as-you-go, then I hope that they will have the decency not to charge an arm or leg per Megabyte...

Two points:
1) Telkom have already stated in their last presentation to ICASA that we once we reach our 'cap' International will be blocked but local will still work on a pay-as-you-use basis.

Anyone in the business knows you NEVER do your testing live - you first ensure everything works in a controlled environment, then proceed with pilot-testing if necessary (depending on the nature of the project and scope / impact on the network) and when you finally go to a live environment you COMMUNICATE to all users that will be potentially affected of the test and ensure there's some change management / contingency plan in place should the testing go horribly wrong!
I'm not with Telkom Internet, but I'll bet a pack of beer that TelkomInternet have not notified any of it's clients of this 'testing' - at least not before 1 November 2007 when the testing is supposed to have started. Considering Telkom's market dominance I really expected more but I guess as long as one preaches becoming 'world class' you never really have to get there so long as you keep saying 'we're making progress' or 'we're planning on offering Service-X in the next couple of months' over and over again

Very typical of Telkom to TEST in a LIVE environment simply to give the illusion to ICASA that they're actually keeping their word and attempting to comply with ADSL Regulation 3.4

Casted my vote in favour of "Pay a set amount upfront and use as much as you like with no limits..." - that's what [highlight]UN[/highlight]capped means....
They knew that the deadline was 1 November for implementation, so why only now are they doing testing?
Stalling tactics so "show" ICASA that they are actively doing something and that way keeping them quiet for as long as possible. I reckon that maybe in a years time we might see some changes - more than likely negative.

The pathetic speeds we are getting from our broadband would make it impossible to Download more than 70gb of data in a month if you have a 4mbps line. So y not just make it uncapped, @ Openweb you can get 2x30gb local accounts for R260 . . .
