I am on softcap. Have a 10GB account. I use it mainly for night surfer downloading. Very good value for money.

Telkom however stipulate that should you reach the cap, you will be throttled and night surfer speeds will also be throttled to about 1/10th of maximum speed.

I purchased 1GB of extra data in an attempt to get full night surfer speed again but it didn't work. Still throttled on both night surfer and outside of night surfer time. The 1GB I purchased is however being depleted. So they know about it. My question is, what can I do to get full speed again? Shouldn't the purchase of the additional 1GB have put me back in the "haven't used his full cap thus should get full speed during regular and night surfer time" bracket???????

No, once you hit that 10GB limit you are softcapped for the rest of the month.

Son of a bitch. Really????

Do you know where it states this in some T&Cs?

What the hell is the use of buying extra data then??

T&Cs para 5.2.4
Once you have reached your SoftCap limit, the all Night Surfer data usage will also be subject to SoftCap,

That part I get. But surely buying additional data should put you back in the "still has data left" bracket, which should mean you should get full speeds during night surfer?

My speeds are throttled on and off night surfer by the way which begs the question what the point of buying additional data is???

No, if you are anything but zero-rated, you should get full speed all the time. This includes when:
-under quota
-using topup
-using out-of-bundle/post-paid

I can't think of a reason why this could be broken, but I haven't tested it recently. PM an affected username and I will try and have a look.

So if you hit your cap and buy a 1GB top up, your night surfer will be at full line speed as well?

If you had 10GB capped and you top up 1GB, it should be as if you had a 11GB capped (which doesn't exist obviously). If you topped up with 10GB, it should be like you had 20GB, just a little bit more expensive (same price as 2x10GB accounts).

It gets better ... if you go post-paid, and use 100MB, it should be like you had a 10.1GB, I think post-paid rates are the same as 1GB topup but rates in 1MB increments, where topup rates decrease per-GB the more ypu buy. Unfortunately we can't currently allow you to place a limit on your post-paid, we are still investigating options for that.

But, let's try and see what is wrong first ... everything was tested and working at one point, but there may be a regression.

I always top up when the cap is reached and u receive full line speed Again. But the top up has been offline for the pass few days.

What do you mean by 'offline'? I can log on (with a test account). I didn't actually try a topup though. Did you receive an error after having logged in while trying to topup?

When I click on the top up link it says an error had occurred.

full speed on night surfer also? I am still throttled to 40 kilobytes per second on my 4MB line. Almost the 1st. So will just wait it out. I have a feeling however that I will be throttled to 40 kilobytes per second on the 1st also. But that is just my pessimism speaking.

Topped up with 1GB. Used about 400MB of that. Strangely data used outside of night surfer is correctly still used from the 1GB top-up and data used in night surfer is still "free" despite being slow as ****.

Yes. It is suppose to be full speed immediately.

This is what I have been seeing when logging on.

Yes that message

This is why I will never ever in a million years be conned into a contract with Telkom or Telkom Internet no matter how many DSTV Exploras they offer.

If the problem persists on Wednesday, I will simply cancel and move on once again. Hope they retrench the whole lot of incompetent imbeciles.
