Telkom Speed upgrades

I've just phoned 10210, the operator told me Telkom is giving the customers an option to stay on 1Mbps, so I need to call again tomorrow during business hour to upgrade to 2Mbps with a small charge. That doesn't sound right to me. I then asked him to do a re-sync for me. However my line is still at 1Mbps even the ADSL Checker site shows 2Mbps.
Apparently I am not lucky enough to get a "good" operator to help me.

Just put the phone down and phone again.

check your downstream and upstream line rate on your router. That will tell you what you syncing at...

I just called 10210 and managed to get my line up to 2mb, he first said they only rolling out the 1mb -> 2mb in January. I was highly confused and made him check the line, reset it, and it's showing 2mb. Now the wait for Mweb to get there stuff together or some other ISP will have a new customer.

If you're on 1mbps --> 2mbps there is a noticeable difference in speed...well for me :) runs at just over 1mbps
Thank's it is showing a slight improvement.

Am really annoyed. My exchange has been upgraded to 10Mbps but i am still on 4 because my area is too far from the exchange a therefore cannot handle the speed. So I have to stay with my 4Mbps. :(

:mad:AwEsOmE!!!

After being on hold for 20min I get told by Telkom guy that my line hasn't been upgraded to 2Mbps (even though ADSL checker shows that it's been upgraded). He says the Telkom website has been updated prematurely and that I have to wait till Januarie because only then will the 1Mbps lines be upgraded... and he is 100% sure because his manager says so... and he won't do a re-sync / profile reset as it will make no difference.

On the plus side you will get a price reduction ;)

I think we both get the incompetent operator that doesn't know what's happening. I am going to try call it again tomorrow and hopefully will have an operator who can really help...

I'm in that same boat... :(

One tip to save everyone MASSIVE amounts of time: don't choose the Internet technical support option (3). Choose DSL fault reporting (2). That way you get to talk to the ones who actually know wtf a profile change is. Funny how no-one here mentioned that.

Unfortunately they couldn't help me as apparently there's a line fault in my area.

Also had to go through to the DSL Fault Reporting, but they had the upgrade sorted in a couple of minutes:

DownStream Connection Speed 2048 kbps

Checked Axxess for my line speed today. Said I was on 2mbps. Router synching at 1. Called Telkom for profile update-no problem. Synched @ 2 THEN zero connectivity. After calling back and being told "all ports were active" after a reset and still no joy, I eventually called Axxess and as usual, got sorted.

Anyhoo, twice the speed, half the download time.

I have been going the "DSL fault" route with option 1 then option 2, but no success. First 10 calls it just said "limited service outside office hours" and then the call will just end. Eventually got to Telkom guy who shot me down telling me that my line hasn't been upgraded yet and I have to wait till January. After that I eventually got through a second time and the lady actually did a reset for me!!!! Too bad I'm still syncing on 1Mbps though...

Anyway, I dropped TelkomZA a PM and hopefully when I get back from work tomorrow I'll be on 2Mbps... :D

Or maybe Telkom guy was right and ADSL checker is wrong and I havn't been upgraded...:wtf:

So my profile has been updated from 1Mb/s to 2Mb/s and my line is synching at 2Mb/s but on speedtest.net my download speed shows 0.72Mb/s and my upload speed shows 0.34Mb/s. I called the call centre they did a port reset and re-synchned my line.
What else could be the problem? My new 2Mb/s line is performing the same as my 1Mb/s line.
