Telkom strike update

Nationally, an approximate 2501 employees, representing around 16% of Telkom’s workforce in the bargaining unit, has heeded the call for industrial action by SACU and CWU as part of a planned industrial action from 1 to 5 August.

Instead of paying themselves undue bonuses for poor performance, the Telkom board should instead be looking after the people who make their income valid: their staff.

And another thing: why are they STILL raising their prices?!?!?!?

I fully support the strike, now, wish my name was Thor ... :-)

Reuben's take-home for the past 12 months could keep 325 people employed at R5,000/mo for a year so there's not much excuse for not being able to give staff the increase they deserve as there's obviously huge room for improvement wrt salaries.

As for the strike - +5 for everyone participating :)

SACU and CWU Strike Update

As advised in our previous communique, SACU and CWU has served the Company with a section 64 notice, effectively stating the intention of their members to engage in protected industrial action from 07:30 on 1 August 2008 to 06:00 on 5 August 2008. Participating employees must note that the rule of "no work, no pay - no discipline" will apply .

Whilst it is employees' democratic right to embark on a strike, those employees participating in the strike are expected to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner and must comply with the Company's policies and procedures. Those employees that contravene these policies and procedures will be liable for disciplinary action.

No agreement exists for employees to withhold their labour for any part of a shift and any piecemeal participation will be construed as "no work, no pay" for the entire shift. The Company will not invoke its right to lock out any employee.

All employees who have elected not to participate in the strike, may report for duty as normal.

Employees will be kept up to date on a daily basis during the course of the strike.

Bastards...

OT: I thought protected strikes mean you get paid as well? If not, some people may look at a day's wages and wonder if it is worth to strike.
