Hey peeps

Hope you guys enjoyed the easter weekend as much as we did.

OK, so the issue. Our Telkom telephone as well as our ADSL have been off line from the 14th of April.

We have reported it 3 times already, they sent a technician on the 18th and he said it was something to do with the exchange. The phone worked for a day or two after that and then went dead again.

ADSL is syncing at just over 5 MB (I had 10MB before issues), but having constant disconnections, can's play anything online and my wife can't do her online quizzes for the varsity.

We pay a **** load for Telkom for telephone and ADSL and it's not working for half the month. I have reported it after the technician came. Is there anything else I can do?

I am not prepared to pay for a service I'm not receiving and I am more than willing to do what is neccessary to get that point accross to them.

Any/all advice appreciated

If they can't get it right ask them to lower the max sync speed.

The copper to my house is rotten. I get 2 Mbps reliably. I can live with that.

Keep reporting it faulty and keep all your fault ref numbers.
Log a dispute with 10210 and demand a refund for down times.

Well, if you had 10mb for the last three months without any issues I'm rather sure anyone would be slightly annoyed if they had to get half of that, if their lucky.

Thanks Mickey, I've got the ref numbers and I'll call them tomorrow morning.

What number should I call to limit the max sync speed?

SAIX network notice a link between London and Bellville is down which results in slow speeds. This problem is likely to affect ADSL, Dialup, Leased Line and WiMax users.

Ummmmmm.... and that affects his LINE stats how?

/note: I deleted your spam attempt in my reply.

I went to Telkom direct about 30 minutes ago, they phoned the technical department and I spoke to the technician that was at our home. He said he'll meet us at home.

We arrived at home 10 minutes later and our telephone was working, he had to have done something since we tested the phone this morning. There's still a lot of noise though, but at least there seems to be some progress.

The line stats as it stands now:

Line Attenuation 31.0 dB 23.5 dB
CRC Errors 0 0

Techie came 11:50 this morning stayed for 15 minutes and went. Came to fetch one of his things, not sure what it is but it will make one crazy listening to that the whole day. Anyway, long story short, everything is fixed and my ADSL is flying again :)

Line Attenuation 26.0 dB 13.5 dB

Lucky you - I am trying to sort out my adsl problems since December 2010. I have been using ADSL at the same exchange since they first came out - few years now. I switched from Telkom ISP to Afrihost when they started with uncapped in July 2010.
Since December 2010 my adsl internet connection is having tremendous downtime and line drops. Every day internet drops some 10-15 times a day (!!! - sometimes even more, I stopped counting - and this i just what I see when I am around) - internet stops working for few minutes, sometimes few hours at the time. And every week I have at least 1 day without internet.
As you can imagine, I have a loooong list of fault reference numbers.
I spent a fortune on cell phone data bundle (can get CellC signal in my area).
When I phoned Telkom today on 10210 (accounts) to give them the list of fault reference numbers for refund - lady said that she can't help me as on each day when faults there was a data transferred on my line - ?!?She said I used internet around 18megs for 2 days (I use that in few minutes, never mind 2 days!!). When I told her that I spend on average R1000/month with Vodacom because Telkom can't provide the service I am paying them for - she was insistent that there is no refund. When I asked her to check what is my data usage on normal days - and she confirmed that on normal days I use 500mb to 2gig/day. Thus, when I asked how can I use 18megs data for 2 days i the line was fine - she could not answer.
I actually wanted to get the refund for the times when the line as not working and cancel the adsl data with Telkom. I am really sick of them and can't stand their bad service, waiting for 45 minutes on the phone just to have my call picked up and dropped and the same time by some incompetent person at their call center, overpaying for something they can't even deliver, etc. Sorry Afrihost - you lose out too.

Thus, I had a guy from Iburst with new 2mbs modem doing a signal test in my house the other day - and speed (without external antennas - I live in very mountainous area) was between 700kbs & 1.5mbs - something I can only dream about on telkom.
I am considering Iburst with 2mbs modem on a month-to-month basis paying via Eft (modem cost R3499 cash - ouch !!).

I read quite a bit of bad reports on Iburst customer service, and I am a bit hesitant to go with them. With no CellC in my area (Glenvista, JHB South), No Amobia signal, Wimax stopped by telkom - what are my option to have fast internet without anything to do with Telkom?
