Telkom first need to change before attempting to buy BCX.

Or else it'll be the same, the same, the same...

I think this article is absolutely spot on, Telkom desperately needs to diversify its income streams...

Also having a "complete" ICT solution means the Telkom could work smarter in the consumer space as well actually, so it ultimately COULD be good for the consumer as well.

COULD be... IF they can change from their old [monopolistic] mindset.

So does it mean someone knows the Orange-BCX buy is off? Was wonder why BCX lifted the caution-of-trade from its shares...

Forget Orange…. Both Telkom & BCX are Lemons anyway :)

BCX is a perfect buy for Telkom to compete with the likes of DD and IS. They need these sort of deals to stay relevant and make some moola

BCX purchase for Telkom would be vital for Telkom as a general operator in the telecommunications and data services industry BUT it simply isn't enough to secure Telkom's survival. For Telkom to survive it has to sort out Telkom the owner of a big pile of fibre and the largest copper mine in South Africa - you own a copper mine, use it before the thieves dig it all up and sells it to China. [And yes I mean Telkom owns a kak load of physical copper which needs to be put to use, rather than that they own an actual copper mine]

Next time I'm in J'bay we must have a coffee or beer!

Off topic: If you have an iPad you want to put up for adoption I'll visit whereever you are to have coffee or beer. :D

On topic: Telkom's volume of consumer engagement is promising - if not a little creepy - when I signed up for the 3 month trial I got a phone call surveying my degree of satisfaction in the installation. About a month in I got a call asking if I am satisfied with the product and now that the period is over and I have indicated I don't want it they have politely confirmed that price is the problem I've got. Clearly they are taking notes, and I can sympathise with their pricing conundrum to an extent.
