Telkom to double line speed

Didn't Telkom do this last year too? I'm still waiting to go from 4mbps -> 10mpbs . There was all this big hoo-hah about everying getting upgraded to 10mbps, and now they just repeat that as if it's something new?

So they now got everyone to be at least 1mpbs , but clearly they can't get much further than 4mbps , hence as the article states, they are not doubling speed of 4mbps/10mbps , but "splitting the offering" . I hope that implies 4mbps gets cheaper instead, as it doesn't look like i will get 10mbps anytime soon.
Yes, they did it last year as well.

1 -> 2
2 -> 4
4 -> 10.

If you're on 10 already then you're not getting upgraded to anything higher.

Could this upgrade mean that uncongested (non-MSAN) exchanges could, after the upgrades, suddenly find that they are suddenly congested?
Doubling all line speeds without doubling exchange bandwith seems like a recipe for disaster...

Congested exchanges, coming to your area. 11 November 2013. Be sure not to miss out on this great offer! :D

If that was truly the case, then no one would be on 1Mbps anymore? Plus i have been on 4mbps for years now, never saw any upgrade ever.

So my point is, telkom is merely lifting the bottom, the top end is remaining static or at least not truly being upgraded because it involves actually upgrading lines/exchanges. The bottom end , which is most likely been a rip-off all this time, always had 4mbps , they were just artificially limited.

So i'm somewhat jaded when i hear these things.

Dont get me wrong its nice that they upgrading line speeds for free but thats only good if the current exchanges can handle it. I hope for Telkom and us consumers sake that our exchanges are upgraded before 11 November or else the congetsion problem will just worsen!

I forsee a major congestion fail approaching.
Almost as epic as BlackBerry's BBM4ALL fail :whistle:

Well for some of us congested exchanges aren't an issue.

I'm not going to repeat myself, go see my post on the first page.

Also the "top" is not 10, its 40.

So the product lineup is. 2, 4, 10, 20 and 40.

In all fairness should people subscribed on 10meg lines not then get a discount and pay the same as those who were just upgraded and are paying for a 4 meg line?

Yes the "top" is 40 but the area's in which 20 and 40 is available is beyond limiting! VERY FEW people have access to those speeds and the price is ridiculous compared to other countries. But hey, who are we to judge the giant Telkom, we should learn to keep our mouths shut and just be happy with the fact that we are connected even if it is at stupid prices and quite spars oh and let's not forget about congestion / throttling / shaping / etc.

Uncapped is the biggest lie told in marketing... its like here is as much sand as you want But you can only use a tea spoon to shovel it after the first barrel...

Yeah, we know, you and YingYang... :whistle:
On the flipside, if you're not on a congested exchange you're going to wait a hell of a long time to get an MSAN because then it means the demand for DSL in your area is very low :)

I hope your theory of congested exchanges getting preference for upgrades turns out to be true.
Fuk, I'll eat my hat if I wake up and find my router is syncing vis ADSL2+ :D

The pessimism of some people on this forum. They complain about line speed, Telkom upgrades the line speed, now they look for something else to complain about.

Congestion is being done away with with the MSAN's. And for those of you who still do not know what that is, do some googling. Its an immensely powerful /complex interconnection of machinery. It costs MILLIONS!

And Millions is a lot for a company the size of Telkom?

Except with Mweb. They don't allow a teaspoon, they only allow tweezers.
