Telkom trialing 8 Mbps ADSL

I would like to know how Telkom intend on growing their Adsl subscriber base when after two months i am still waiting for them to install my telephone line!

Lucky you, I was told that lines where being reserved for business use in my area, and I will only be able to get a line (not ADSL...) and I quote "in a year or so".

whats the point of speed when they have not addressed the cost of bandwidth yet?

Since the cost of their services rival my bond repayments, maybe this is not so far-fetched after all...
 
they cant get the 4MB right, how the hell are they intending to do 8MB? i have 3 x 4MB lines and still have crap speed.......
 
This is a joke, you cannot even watch a youtube video without the thing stuttering badly thanks to the joke that is their current backhaul bandwidth.

I hope someone shoves an 8mbs pipe up Ruben's @ss!

So just exactly what do you think that width means ?

The availiable bandwidth is wider on 8mbs than 4mbs, its traffic what you're referring to.

Back on topic:

i think with the new cables coming we should see some high caps or maybe even complete uncapped solutions soon. I mean Neotel now sells 2.4mbit uncapped, just too bad that they dont have dsl solutions so you could knock off the couple of hundred milliseconds that you gain with wireless.

Denotes the width of the frequency band used to transmit data. The broader the bandwidth, the faster the connection.

LOL, please tell me Cookie, did they tell you there was no budget? thats the norm. to many dividends to pay ;)

Yep, I live in the middle of suburbia and I cant even get an adsl line. Why are they spending time and money on increasing speed when they should be installing lines instead?

HAHA! yeah and you are only allowed enough water for 30 cups of tea, and if u use it up b4 the month-end you have to suck the teabag till next month
 
Na, I think Telkom want's 8mbs to keep the title of "Fastest Braodband" wait till neotel get's thier intercity fibre cables sorted :D Telkom will be droping bricks!

A friend of mine working for a company contracted to Telkom had a 20Mb line.... that's what Telscum is using whilst we are stuck with sub-meg lines.

Still, if they bring down prices and increase speed and so something to address the capping issue then we can be nothing but happy really.

My latest telkom bill included a flyer which advertised the Billion Modem. "The modem is IPTV* ready and support VOIP, VoBB* and Triple Play." it says.
*When supported and launched by Telkom.

As to backhaul capacity, Telkom can always rent/lease capacity from Neotel.
As was said some time ago, IPTV and Triple play will not eat into your cap.

Yeah but you forgot to mention that it is pretty hard to get enough water for 30 cups of tea.

those 30 cups of tea: is that local or imported tea?

cause we all know imported is WAY better than local tea. local tea has no taste AT ALL (apart from uhhhh certain forum tea variations :) )
