Hi there.

We have a 4Mb ADSL line with Telkom for some time now.

Our internet connection dropped to basically nothing on Friday the 16th of May 2014. Done some test with Telkom that confirm there is something wrong with our line.

Today I received a message from Telkom that we reach our maximum download limit, even if its a 4Mb Uncapped account. Apparently they limit the "uncapped" accounts also.

Is that correct?

We never had this problem in the past and not even sure how or where to check what we download a month.

Usage apparently was 250.01G.

We also confirmed with their technical side that we did not breach any other policies - its was definitely because of maximum download limit set for uncapped accounts.

Good to know telkom uncapped 4mb limit is 250GB.

AFIAK mweb uncapped standard 4mb limit is 400GB

Usage apparently was 250.01G.
Seems low for 4Mbps uncapped, people were doing 400GB+ before softcap prior to the speed upgrades at the beginning of the year. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the softcap limits were reduced when the upgrades were finalised end Feb as TI users were now "effectively paying less for more" - speed not data consumption that is.

Although just did a quick read under the Telkom Uncapped forum section and it seems a lot of people are complaining about very slow speeds today, with another saying speeds improved after 3pm, maybe it was just one of those "slow" days....

*edit* Another telkom 4m uncapped user just confirmed they have been "capped" , currently on 292GB usage.

I could get close to 200GB on a 1Mb/s line back in the day. I don't go way above 100GB these on a 2Mb/s line, nothing left to download :o

So here the proof.

Telkom limits their uncapped accounts now. Strange how we moved from 250Gb to 266Gb in two days with no internet access.

Anyway, so 4Mb uncapped line gets blocked at 250Gb now. You connect, but so slow that you cannot even open google.

Below a copy of the email just received from them.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for emailing the Telkom Internet Support Desk.

Our records indicate that the Fair Usage Policy has been activated on your Telkom Internet account, that means that you will still be able to access the internet but at a reduced speed. The combined volume for the month of May is 266.051 GB, for further assistance kindly contact 10210.

Kind Regards

Is there a different limit for VDSL? This would be for the 20Mb/s line.
