Lol. You can run any account on any line. The lowest speed (either line or account) will be what you actually get. Obviously there's little financial point in doing this, but I mentioned it to illustrate a point.

More often than not I get the expected max line speed. I and anybody else can tell pretty quickly when an ISP is shaping/throttling my downloads. No need to have access to a shaping policy to figure that one out.
And Telkom is stating up front that I won't get my line speed so why waste extra/the same money for a lesser service?

This is line-speed dependent. If you get 10Mbps on a capped account, you would get 10Mbps on an uncapped account (4-10Mbps is not throttled at all, thus the significantly higher price, it is more tailored to business use than the others).

This has nothing to do with LLU.
You don't have to, but if you are prepared to sign a 12 month contract, you can get better pricing.

Shaped like standard non-unshaped capped accounts, IOW DNS, ssh and http prioritized (AFAIK).

No throttling on 4-10Mbps (thus the large price difference).

Why what's so special about it?The 10Mbps special is the only one I would sign the contract for. The question is what happens after the 12 months are up? The other problem is you need to get down to rAge
According to the bolded part above, includes up to 10Mbps line rental, but only a 1Mbps account to use on it. Bit doff, unless local is unrestricted relative to line not package speed.

During the press briefing Telkom clarified this. The rAge special covers 4Mbps ADSL rental and a 1Mbps uncapped account. This is to allow gamers to switch to capped accounts and still get full "fastest ADSL" speeds.
The question here was about the rAge special, not the general 1Mbps account.

That's how it was explained to me, yes. If you want 4Mbps speeds you'll need to switch to a different (typically capped) account.

My thoughts exactly, I think Telkom are hoping people would prefer to get one bill from Telkom although it is a bit more expensive. Can't see any reason to change from MWEB to them at all, but lets see what some people say once they have used it.
Mike I don't get that logic - they don't state they are throttling using the after TCP etc overhead, rather that they are throttling using whatever measure is used to the normal throttling. For example on my 384kbps line I get 48 KBps fairly regularly, in fact sometimes it goes a little over (had 50KBps before briefly). I have also used 512kbps uncapped on a 4Mbps line and achieved the same thoughput as on the 512kbps line, so in my limited experience I would infer that if they throttle it will in fact reduce the true speed.
What is odd is the amount they throttle by, why 8 to 25%? 25% I get (1Mbps lines), but reducing 384 to 354 seems a bit pointless, surely they have provisioned backhaul to allow for 1Mbps lines on all ports, surely 30kbps is more trouble to throttle than any benefit??
Because if they did that, they only way to differentiate products and show advancement would be to produce something worthwhile.
For example, if 4mbps meant just that without any conditions, then the only way to progress would be to provide 5mbps, 6mbps etc.
With the current scenario, they've taken 4mbps, added a "cap" concept and differentiate on how many gigs we get.
Then on uncapped they added "shaping" and differentiate on who has the best shaping.
now Telkom is adding "throttling" on top of shaping, so now we will chase after the provider who give us as close to that 4mbps line as possible across ALL protocols instead of just worrying about torrents and newshosts.
Throughout all this our actual options haven't moved much: its still 384k, 512k, 4m, 10m. In fact now they've effectively dropped 4mbps in favour of 1mbps, and expect us to all rejoice when they show up with 4mbps at some point in the future.
When are we going going to move beyond this?

It would be nice if the speed restrictions didn't apply to Saturday and Sunday.

I signed up for the rage special, but still not sure if i am gonna take it.
If i have a 4mb line but 1mb uncapped ,how is it diffrent then 1mb line and mweb uncapped
I just want to know if the overhaul speed (normal downloads, torrents, usenets) will be faster then my 1mb+mweb uncapped.
By the way, the guy at the expo told me it include the analog line rental (but it was clearly a lie).

WRT to the following question I had here:
Could one add the 1Mbps Uncapped to a current TI/Do account, like the one in the quote above?
Forgot I was meant to research 4Meg line uncapped for my friend.
He currently has 4meg line, with 1000 anytime free mins (landline calls)
He wants to go uncapped on the DSL with telkom, as he prefers having the 1000mins of landline calls for he's kids that'll otherwise race up the phone bill.
Any idea of product that would suit him?
Currently he's paying R900 for the 1000mins, 4Mbps ADSL and 16GB TI cap.
From what I've been finding - TI 4Mbps Uncapped is like nearly R3k?!?!
Could one add the 1Mbps Uncapped to a current TI/Do account, like the one in the quote above?
