Telkom uncapped ADSL pricing unveiled

So the 1 meg line isn't 1 meg during the day and it is more expensive than mweb :erm: Same applies to the 384 but the same pricing. What am I missing?

Much needed move by Telkom though but falls a bit short imo.

Line overheads (backhaul) are a seperate issue to TCP overheads which is what we were talking about. At the end of the day both of these would apply in all circumstances and would simply add to any other artificial limitation applied by the ISP. Throttled is throttled whichever way you slice it.
 
The details of the new TelkomInternet do Uncapped accounts are as follows:

Do Uncapped 384kbps account only – R219; daytime restriction (06h00 to 22h00) to 354kbps
Do Uncapped 1Mbps account only – R369; daytime restriction (06h00 to 22h00) to 767kbps
Do Uncapped 4/10Mbps account only – R2097

Do Uncapped 384kbps account & ADSL access – R371; daytime restriction (06h00 to 22h00) to 354kbps
Do Uncapped 1Mbps account & ADSL access – R658; daytime restriction (06h00 to 22h00) to 767kbps
Do Uncapped 4/10Mbps account & ADSL access – R2510

Read a few posts up. You probably won't notice anything anyway because the throttle speed is actually very close to real world speed once you factor in the overheads. Do a speed test on your existing account and compare it to the throttle speeds mentioned in the article if you're still sceptical.

Erm ok, please do a speed test on your existing account and post the result here.
 
This may just be the best uncapped product by a long distance- the main problem with the uncapped packages in this country is that there are not enough low usage users to help supplement high end users, we know for sure that telkom has plenty of low end users but then again this is telkom we talking about
 
maybe it's just me but the contract and price is still a fail for me....especially the top end offering...

why cant the try and match the other ISP's and can the contract??? :confused:

Ok, but won't there be overheads on top of this throttled speed? If it is so insignificant, why throttle in the first place? Seems petty. Just don't see the point in paying more for less. Especially considering Telkom can provide this cheaper than its competitors.

Doesn't apply to the account AFAIK. If you try running a 1Mbps account on a 4Mbps line then you will get the full 1Mbps speed. But if you try running it on a 1Mbps line then your speed will be reduced.

They don't even have to offer uncapped. If they offer those RedAfrica accounts commercially then I'm sure that they'll have a winner.

I think we have to blame ASA for this one with over "regulating" advertisements making it almost impossible to attach a speed to any of iets products. Also, the 10Mbps deal would probably include the 4Mbps guys since not everyone is close enough to exchange, or has an exchange capable of 10Mbps.
 
Redafrica accounts is still the best value for money accounts in this country.
nobody else can match Webafrica's special
