Telkom uncapped ADSL pricing unveiled

throttling between 6h00 and 22h00 , that`s pretty much the whole day... ? can I expect dial-up speeds during these hours ? much better REAL Uncapped services out there. R369 for the 1Mbps , too little to late ...for to much unfortunately. I was so hoping for something fresh.

384 is throttled to 354, 1mbit is throttled to 700 something...

//Puts on NAAS suit// Lets be honest now boys, this is a massive event in the context of telecoms in this country. This finally means telkom is starting to play actual ball. Any issues we may have with this will soon go as telkom iterates their uncapped accounts which actually now exist. The next 6-12 months are going to be huge - good times ahead.

Best news since MWEB launched uncapped.

So it is throttled, and not shaped? Se EVERYTHING will be slower not just Torrents et al?
note these throttled speeds are "up to" speeds...
but yes, i assume everything will be slower, just waiting for someone whose out of their minds to sign a contract just to give usage feedbacks :D

OMFG I just saw a pig fly past my window!

I wonder what Brian "3Gigs" Armstrong has to say now :D

I am not sure if it was flying or just being flung past your window, if the latter it will fall hard in a short time.
I will watch this with interest and if they release 4Meg to us non gamer's, and make it all inclusive, I will upgrade my existing Telekom internet account. But until I am convinced that the Pig really did take flight, I will stay with my existing UnCapped ISP.

Cheers
Chris

The do Gamers bundle, available only at rAge this weekend, costs R782 per month and includes line rental for Telkom’s fastest ADSL offering (“up to 10Mbps”), a copy of Battlefield 3 (when it launches), and a 2TB external hard drive.

I guess if you want to get this and your line is currently with another ISP you are screwed?

+1

I see what you did there, don't feed the trolls.

EDIT: Tried complaining to Telkom, that didn't help.
Escalated the issue within Telkom, that didn't help.
Asked MWEB and Webafrica to escalate the issue with Telkom - Telkom just ignored them - that didn't help.
So I voted with my money and cancelled my Telkom account.
Now I just spread the word - via mybb and other forums.

I think the best part of this announcement is that Mweb might be forced to drop their ridiculous pricing on their 10mbps uncapped accounts.

Isn't that waht this forum is for?

When was MyBroadband founded?

MyBroadband was started in 2003 (known then as MyADSL) as a forum to address the broadband problems which existed in South Africa at the time. Since then website grew into a full blown IT News publication and online community, serving over 5 million pages per month.

so effectively I`m paying R369 for a 767kbps product as apposed to R299 for 1Mbps with my current ISP...again , no thanks.
Please do a speed test and post how many Kbps you get on your existing account. My guess is that it wouldn't much higher than 767 Kbps, because you forgot to factor in TCP overheads.

Well I can only assume the same overheads principle would apply on the 767Kbps product , which means I reality it would probably be closer to 512Kbps ?

how the hell am i suppose to stream by 720p and 1080 movies on these packages.
if telkom can give me a 4meg uncapped for R650 then i might think about it.

Nope the overheads apply to the line, not to the account.
