Telkom uncapped ADSL pricing unveiled

@henry, more information will come regarding shaping (those protocols mentioned) as users start to give feedback :D.

Bloody good news, who is going to have a beer just for Telkom O_O ....

sounds good to me, but not keen on signing contract just to try it out and give feedback...
have a beer --> [_]3

12 month contract is a fail unfortunately. No one in their right mind should sign a contract in this current market.

I would sign the special contract, i don't think we will be seeing uncapped 10meg data accounts for R300 odd any time soon.
The 10Mbps special is the only one I would sign the contract for. The question is what happens after the 12 months are up? The other problem is you need to get down to rAge :(

For me the issue would be what if the account doesn't meet my expectations? Almost every single uncapped offering out there at the moment suffers from some sort of issue, whether it's excessive shaping, ridiculous throttling, etc. There's no reason to believe that Telkom's uncapped offerings are going to be any less disappointing. I'd rather not discover that 2 months into a 12 month contract.

If you read through the forum topics over the last few years, which ISP do you think has the least negative feedback (read ISP ) ?? That's right its Telkom Internet.

We all used them or atleast most of us did before other offerings came onto the market so i believe it will balance things out and ALOT of people will move over to them.

This is just my opinion though.

I will definitely have a [_]3 though for them :D

LLU is really working for South Africa,

I do not like the fact you have to sign a 12 month contract, most ISP's do not require you to sign a contract for Broadband for Residential access only.

Of course, you do have a choice not to sign or take up the offer.

I honestly wish these various promotions would just go away. All it does is leave a bitter taste in the mouths of people who don't get them. What's the point in pleasing 1 person, at the expense of annoying a thousand others?

Just offer your services, whatever they are.

Agreed. Especially as the offer is being made to such a limit segment of the population.

Throttled would probably be a better choice of word :D

Nonetheless, it looks like a good offer, if it gets offered wide of rAge.

Remains to be seen if the include line rental or not, as that would be a huge plus to going with the offer.

Congested Exchanges - pay for 4Mbps get 0.2Mbps

the only thing I'm afraid of, its speeds "up to 10Mbps" ... this means it could be 2mb or 3mb or 4mb etc...
bit to unclear for my liking... not a bad deal.. seeing as all inclusive at mweb is R899pm (4mb).
Bonus items, BF3 & 2TB HDD
not to worried bout the 12month contract, but rather not if I dont know what my minimum speed will be..

What does this help if Telkom does not increase the capacity at their infrastructure.
Telkom have been increasing the CAPS, and even offing uncapped (OMG),
but they don't invest in the infrastructure.

All this is going to do is increase the congestion at Telkom exchanges.
See "List of Congested Exchanges" on mybb:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/364262-List-of-congested-exchanges

So if you are on uncapped and on a congested exchange, expect to get 1/20th of the speed
you paid for - i.e. Pay for 4Mbps and get 0.2Mbps.
FYI: 1:20 is the "legal" Telkom contention ratio.

If there was adequate capacity, we would be seeing better mybb speedtest:
http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/
Current average for 4Mbps ADSL is a miserable 2.2Mbps (local DL)
Current average for 10Mbps ADSL is a pathetic 4.2Mbps (local DL)

And don't forget:
Armstrong said at the time that only 3% of their current 9GB ADSL subscribers exceed their cap, which tells them that the current account sizes are adequate for most of their subscribers.

The do Gamers bundle, available only at rAge this weekend, costs R782 per month and includes line rental for Telkom’s fastest ADSL offering (“up to 10Mbps”), a copy of Battlefield 3 (when it launches), and a 2TB external hard drive.

WTF

Cant be can i deposit money in someone`s account ?

Do you have to post this in every thread, you're not going to get anything changed from the forum...

throttling between 6h00 and 22h00 , that`s pretty much the whole day... ? can I expect dial-up speeds during these hours ? much better REAL Uncapped services out there. R369 for the 1Mbps , too little to late ...for to much unfortunately. I was so hoping for something fresh.
