Telkom uncapped ADSL warning

So glad I am not with them. I don't like being prescribed that I can't stream my Apple TV or play my online World of Warcraft. Stuff them.

As far as I know, the message sent to customers was:
-Not vetted by the product managers
-Not vetted by anyone who knows the technical details of exactly how the product behaves (no-one in our team saw it before it was scheduled for distribution)

Please don't read too much into the message, there are way too many technical inaccuracies.

Must've been a Chinese or Russian hacker who sent it then! :wtf:

One reason I stick to my 50 gb Telkom capped account since I get free downloads between 0-6 am and 50 gb's anyway is a lot for me and never get close to using it :).

Capped Unshaped account always beats Uncapped shaped with torrents and gaming.

How is the download speeds between 0-6? No shaping at all, even on torrents?

Thanks for the reply. I will monitor this and see if it will make a difference. O' what about the weekends? I stream alot of sport.

Traffic during the 0-6am period does not count towards your usage does does not affect your usage profile https://secure.telkomsa.net/titracker/ which at the end of the day is gonna determine when you get throttled.
Your daily usage including 0-6am still gets reflected on your user statistics http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/, say you do 5GB 0-6am & 1GB 6-24 your user statistics would show 6GB of usage for the day BUT on 1GB (0-6am) will be recorded for you usage profile will only take 1GB into consideration as the 0-6am traffic is effectively zero rated for it's purpose.

If you go have a look in the TI Uncapped Feedback thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/596707-Telkom-Internet-Uncapped-User-Feedback-(Pt2) you will see there are people that download 200GB etc without their usage profile showing any usage whatsoever.

I'm on uncapped and my torrents run at near as line speed as you could get, about 200-208kB/s on a 2Mb/s line.

They usually run fine during the day as well for me.

Edit: Just to test I just resumed my torrents now and it fluctuates between 180-208KB/s, this is at 11:15am.

I still game, watch youtube etc during the day. I also know of others that stream sports, hulu, netflix etc and they seem to be doing fine.

If you try to download a torrent before 23:00 any day of the week, you at best will get 40KB/s, averaging around 5-15KB/s. Uploads are not shaped/throttled, so seeding can go full tilt. After 00:00 and before 06:00 torrents come down at maximum.

It's laughable they even mention online gaming as being a problem. Seriously who wants an ISP that is going to interfere with their online gaming?

Are you willing to try something?

What OS are you using?

I'll PM you later if you are willing.
I'm willing. Nothing too extreme and we must have a 2 levels of safe word.

Also, I am using Windows 7 Ent 64Bit and Andriod 4.4.2 on a Minix Neo X7.

Wonder who these culprits are who always try and spoil the fun for everyone else.

Crystal Web is also battling with this problem where some of their customers have transferred in excess of 100GB per day, and they haven't even launched yet for the broader public.

Seriously, do you think it makes you cool for some reason to download such a lot of stuff?

These must be the same boys who ate all the food on the table at parties they were invited to while growing up.

so you saying i am not allowed to use my product to the fullest? are you paying for it...no you not i am. so i will dl to the max that my line supports
