Telkom upgrade 2Mbps to 4Mbps

Still very very wary of them. But you say you did meet them iirc ?

Jip they are legit, but I don't think they will make much dent in the next 2 years.

They are physically lying their own fiber network.

So they say, I've seen their one white guy trenching down umhlanga rocks drive lmfao. Was thinking to myself hope his trenching machine doesn't get stolen there while hes out on lunch bwahahahaha

Easy, call 10210 and select the menu options till you get through to cancellations. Told them I'm prepared to upgrade to 4Mbps if they give me 25% discount. They said OK. Just be prepared to wait a while on the line while they process the request. Not sure why it must take so long, and then it's the 7 day wait.

Did you have to sign a 12 or 24 month contract?

Nope, all I confirmed is that I will not terminate the service within 12 months.

You agreed to a 12 month contract then :D

Don't worry the exit penalty is only 10% which is paid for after 2-3 months from the discount you receive.

Not worried at all. Time flies when you are having fun. 12 months will be over in a flash.

Did they email/sms you with a reference number?

Just received a SMS without a reference number.
Dear Customer, you will now receive a monthly discount on your product for the next 12 months. Thank you for keeping Telkom as your service provider. For enquiries please call 10210. Regards, Telkom.

Tl;dr

My manager just told me now that he has an uncapped 2meg mweb account and he pays them R350/M.

I have an uncapped 2meg Telkom account and I get charged R579/M.

So... What am I missing?

That your manager did not add the line rental fee.

Telkom. Im guessing the limit it so the exchange doesnt become congested too quickly.

I thought you were supposed to be studying telecommunications. Check that thing you linked again, telkom uses ADSL2+ Which is 24/1.3Mbps. Real world that would be difficult to achieve unless right next to the exchange.

At the guy saying you onky get 0.8Mbps, you are getting 1Mbps but are not factoring in overheads which is 10-15% of the line down. Also one cannot utilize the full upload or the download will suffer, also vice versa.

He says that the line rental is included.

He's talking crap or confusing adsl line rental with voice line rental.

If he has a 2meg uncapped bundle (uncapped data + adsl line rental) from mweb then it comes to R340 but that excludes the R189 he still has to pay telkom for the voice line.

Secondly it cannot be inclusive of voice because he says he pays mweb & you cannot get the voice line component from mweb, it's telkom only.
