Apparently VDSL doesn't like joined copper cables.

The technician who came to my house last week said a VDSL line would be impacted by the amount of times the Telkom cables had to be replaced after being stolen.

The area I reside in is covered by a VDSL blanket but I can't get VDSL because of the amount of joins in the cable infrastructure, so the best I can get is 20meg ADSL :(

Hopefully your issue can be solved. I just thought I'd mention this as a possibility :)

Come on Telkom, my 10MB e-mail attachment is taking 5 minutes to send on a 20Mbps VDSL line...

Something is odd. Telkom has always artificially limited the upload bandwidth to 3Mbps for a 40Mbps VDSL line. But now the upstream sync speed is 10Mbps for a 40Mbps VDSL line...

BEFORE (2014):
================================
VDSL Training Status: Showtime
Mode: VDSL2 Annex B
VDSL Profile: Profile 17a
Traffic Type: PTM Mode
Line Rate: 3.092 Mbps 41.039 Mbps
Actual Net Data Rate: 3.072 Mbps 40.959 Mbps
Attainable Net Data Rate: 16.571 Mbps 54.570 Mbps
================================

NOW (2017):
================================
VDSL Training Status: Showtime
Mode: VDSL2 Annex B
VDSL Profile: Profile 17a
Traffic Type: PTM Mode
Line Rate: 10.273 Mbps 45.147 Mbps
Actual Net Data Rate: 10.238 Mbps 45.055 Mbps
Attainable Net Data Rate: 15.043 Mbps 59.333 Mbps

Maybe a VDSL upstream bandwidth increase on the cards???
Franna, did you get a new modem recently?

Nope, the same Zyxel SBG3300-N VDSL Router as in use since 2014. Also confirmed it on another 40Mbps and 20Mbps/5Mbps VDSL line.

ISP account on the line is the CrystalWeb Capped Business package.

According to the speedtest it is definitely running at 10Mbps upstream... WHOOPA!!!

I really wanted 20MB VDSL. I can only get Fibre with Vuma unfortunately. :(

They took too long though. I'm on fibre now and just downgraded my DSL to 2Mbit (to have as a backup).

Are you sure you didn't switch the two terms around?

Who wants xDSL instead of fibre? :confused:

That's like saying I really wanted a VW Polo, but can only get a Porsche unfortunately.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have an LTE back-up? You're in TV as well, Telkom, CellC and Vodacom have LTE coverage.

I can live with R165pm. It will hardly ever get used and it's already set up inside my firewall with no additional hardware or purchases required.
