Telkom vs ISP

Ok here's why people get upset over things that have not happened.

When rumors go around about a good change in the adsl fee's or service, it nevers happens.
But when rumors go around about a bad change, it always happens.
Now how does that work?

I am also sure you all know that telkom downsized to get more money, now they in way over their heads and to few people to get jobs done. If they got 1 million sign ups for dsl all at once, would they be able to install all those lines with in a year. I really don't think so. Now that would be one reason why they CAN'T lower the prices and it's their fault. If they didn't downsize, they would be able to have a lot more dsl us and would be able to lower their prices and make a considerably larger profit.

Now how is this the governments fault? If they were forced to lower prices, their sign ups would be too high and they wouldn't be able to cope. They would overload the whole infrastructure to save money and the service and speeds will be even slower. So telkom made a few mistakes in the past and it's not the governments fault.

So in the end they shot themselves in the foot. :(

I think you are refering to Economies of Scale.

Firstly I would like to apologize for hitting on you as you are not the only guilty party, but I don’t care.

We are still waiting for your solution though. I'm glad that you are happy with the state of adsl, crime, etc in this county.
As for a go at me – I can’t give a ****. You go on about the porn or whatever. I don’t really need much more than 3GIG most of the time for my work, but others does.’

Who the hell do you think you are telling them they can’t complain – it’s their right to complain if something (ADSL) are ridiculously priced and capped?
You keep saying come up with a solution, but we’re still waiting for yours as I’m sure you have one. Or are you like those idiot politicians that will say stuff like “We should stop world poverty, etc” – all good and noble and we all know that but it will help if they can give as a good solution.

If you read through my post you will see not too much complaining but I can tolerate others that need more bandwidth than me complaining, what I can’t tolerate is idiots that that jump on a high horse say stupid stuff like “come up with a solution”, but don’t have a single solution themselves.

Complaining people are definitely not the reason that so few people have ADSL – pricing and caps are – If you can’t see that it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee mate.

So please in your next post come up for a solution for them, but not something as stupid as “go for 3G or Iburst”

You would make the perfect politician. Why? You don’t download a lot. Yeah right, and you contradict yourself with most statement. Do you actually remember what you say?

11 and still going - I think I'm nearing the end.

A usage monitor wont make a dif if you're with Telkom as you don't know when you'll get capped - I'm on 8 now and still going strong.

For someone that does not REALLY need more than 3 gigs, you are doing very well. I just cant understand why you have posted thus far 4 threads on capping, let us see now 8gig, 11gig .......

youradsl said:
Well, I've done my share of downloading TV shows, etc, but to say it's legal :D - are you guys dreaming?

And i thought you used it only do your "work". Below one of your more intellectual comments, but we still keep bitching. Now who is the "idoit on the high horse" again?

youradsl said:
The bad thing is that prices will never and can’t ever be the same as "international standards" - it's a shame that sooner or later all of us will have to realise that.

And this one, you actually understand that negative comments can and will chase away potential customers.

youradsl said:
It' a public forum, yes where you can let you hair down, etc, though I wont advise any business to do it in a manner that you did.
For one - SAOL has lost me as a possible future client, just because of this thread, and I’m sure I’m not the only one

Is it so hard to just let it go now? You’re obviously doing more damage than good..

youradsl said:
.. thought I might be capped as I know it the correct password...

youradsl said:
Silly question, but how do you know when you're capped. Do you get a specific error message. Does it still connect but you can't browse? (Saix - Telkom).

I would like to continue, but you as a subject is starting to bore me.

Oh yes, my solution. Get rid of the useless contributors like yourself. Things might just get better for all of us.

Please don’t cry mate - just a bit of fun. And please stop mentioning the word solution as you obviously have none. Yeah, by having a look at all your posts I can see how much you contributed.

Like I said before I hate people like yourself that jump on their high horse telling other people to do something (solutions, etc) but in the meantime you are to damn useless to do anything yourself.

Get a life mate - now go to bed and stop your stupid bickering. If you hate those people complaining so much - I suggest you get out of this forum as you might have noticed that most of threads in here are complaints.

If everyone is so unhappy about the state of dsl, why don’t you move to another service (3g, iburts …….).
It's people with this kind of attitude that doesn’t contribute at all - you just accept everything as it is. Believe me those moaners are contributing way more than you.

Now enough of you - silly little man.

Shame, your poor ego! Did it take a nock? It would also seem that you can not read (as I never said I have a solution to your pathetic problems).

Let me guess, you are the same guy that gets bad food (adsl in your case) in a restaurant, kicks up a noise but still eats and pays the bill. Other more intellectual customers will leave, never to return. They will go to another shop, more exclusive where they can enjoy themselves (lets call it 3G or any other service). They pay more but have fewer hassles.

If you don't like something, don't use it. Even animals that is supposedly less intellectual that you adhere to these "laws". Bit then again ............

This was a great one :D At least now I can see why you keep going on about this, you are too stupid too make an intellectual comparison. Let me try to explain it too you in your language:

If I want a steak (ASDL like you say) and I'm not happy with it I have 100s of other restaurants that can provide me with another better steak, in case of ADSL you don’t have an option of restaurants (providers) you can only get your steak from Telkom - remember we only have one steak (ADSL) provider. I love ****** like you it make life worth living by giving one a good laugh.
I’m glad that you are happy with your steak as it is; most of us always want something better out of life.

I mean with a statement like this:

Some people need it they don't have a choice...
What next if government decides water will be R100 per litre from now on you will probably just say: "If you don’t like it don’t drink anything” cause that seems to be your solution to everything...?

l am glad to see that you are still only seeing problems. Let us recap on the “burning” issues. The problems with Telkom are: high prices (but still lower that 3G, thanks for clearing that up.), slow installation times and throughput (only 1gig for 3G). Two of these topics have been discussed the last 24 months. Prices have gone down (still not good). The latest complaint is capping. If you use more throughput buy it. Most users here get through on 3gigs. Maybe if you stop downloading piracy music/software/games and porn your cap would not be a problem. If I am wrong on the previous statement (and I doubt it) and you have a business, start managing your employees on downloading.
No. 1 problem with ADSL in SA. Why in the name of Cthulu is it more expensive and less useful than dialup?

Let's compare:
Cost:
Dialup:
R92 line rental + R45 ISP + R62 Infinitcall + R246 25 calls @ R9.85
=R445
ADSL
R92 line rental + R270 192k ADSL rental + R249 3GB shaped TelkomInternet
=R611

Functionality:
Dialup:
Unshaped and uncapped. Using the above you can get about 8GB down and 2GB up a month
ADSL:
Shaped and capped. Using the above you can get about 3GB up and down a month

Unless you're concerned about speed there really is no point to ADSL.

You can't use GoogleEarth, iTunes, streaming audio \ video or download betas (you actually have to order the f*cking CDs FFS) due to the bloody ridiculous bandwidth prices. 3GB won't even keep me browsing for a month, never mind ever actually downloading something.

ahahahahahaha

....wait....
you're serious?
Congratulations then to Qwagga - you must be the ultimate consumer, pay any price for anything and never question it.

No, I am not the perfect customer; however I am prepare to pay for what is available, understand the shortcomings, get the best one for my needs and live with it.

Will I move somewhere else for cheaper more reliable service once it is available - Yes.

I would however love to have a 100MB ADSL connection with unlimited throughput for 99c, just like everyone else.

Any other questions?

But telkom better get it right soon. If our president said that we are going to host theeee Best Ever World Cup. So Telkom are gonna have to change there attitude towards us.

Always interesting the more people get emotional the more they talk about the other's intellect.

I see qwagga not as a happy camper with the current ADSL scenario, but that only keep on complaining (also called nagging) would not solve any problem. The challenge is to use the collective power we have like the submissions to ICASA to further the cause. That could change something. Just to complain about things we all know and just keep on doing it fosters a victim mentality.

The fact is that that there was some movement in the right direction pricewise. Lets acknowledge that at the very least.

For sure we can acknowledge it, thats not a problem but have you seen the latest reading on Hellkom.co.za looks like we are getting no where. So much for the hope of this country. If we are going to host Theee Best ever world Cup.
