Telkom warns against bandwidth theft

well they might have given people the 0800375375 number to call that would have kept them quite for a while - maybe they caught a few insiders and are blowing a smoke screen - have you ever heard them saying they caught anyone, have you ever heard them admit anything is ever their fault - perhaps the moto is not ' the customer is always right ' but ' the customer has no rights ' :)

It's more of a mantra over at Telkodemonopolies than a motto.

Right on the money. Just like the cell phone networks that tacitly approve of cell phone theft because it increases their market for prepaid users, why *would* Talcum do anything to stop bandwidth theft? I mean, people who'se b/w get stolen will just have to top up more often...and no prizes for guessing who benefits from that ... ;)

The thing is that there is a way of completely stopping data transfer theft, some ADSL ISPs have implemented it - it involves allowing the customer to voluntarily lock their ADSL ISP Accounts to their ADSL lines - such that an ADSL ISP Account username and password cannot be used on any other ADSL lines.

So it's a case of White-Lies - again, I actually feel he insulted our intelligence by saying that Telkodemonopolies introduced an online password changer form to combat "bandwidth" theft, and what happens when the thief also uses that form with a stolen TelkodemonopoliesHindernet ADSL username & password, and locks the rightful owner out of their own ADSL ISP Account...

If Telkodemonopolies was serious about combating "bandwidth" theft, Telkodemonopolies would be thoroughly investigating all reported instances and Telkodemonopolies would be laying criminal charges against the thieves who can easily be tracked according to the ADSL line that they used with stolen ADSL ISP Account usernames and passwords - not to mention cutting off a thief's ADSL line and permanently blacklisting them.
 
A friend of mine upgraded to ADSL4096. The same day they upgraded the line a new user and password was issued. Suddenly he battled to get access via internet explorer. Opening intennet pages was slow and frustrating. The connection (rather IEexplorer) continually crashed or no access was possible. After many discussions and solutions with TELKOM they gave him the URL to change his password. After that was done suddenly the normal high speed activity was possible without errors.

Question is what happened. 5 gig was downloaded during that period before the password was changed. He claims he did not download it or do not know about it. According to the Saix information (and sassa) the 5 gig was through his DSlam or port.

Can he be hacked with a back door trojan and International data downloaded via his computer over a normal local link? How will that be possible.
