Telkom warns customers against payment scam

“It must be stressed that Telkom does not conduct its business this way where reimbursements are made into subscribers’ bank accounts.”
IOW telscum will NEVER EVER REIMBURSE YOU FOR ANYTHING YOU MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE EVER OVERPAID TO THEM. lol, like we dont know that already

Lol, if they tried this on me, I would say "your account will be credited" or "we will need to perform a investigation" telkom style...

Well anyone dumb enough to fall for that probably deserves it. Any Telkom customer with half a braincell and half a memory cell should be suspicious the moment 'Telkom' tells them they've 'credited' their account!

“Finally, members of the public are urged to contact Telkom’s fraud hotline on 0800 124 000 or the nearest police station in order to report suspicious behaviour, advised [Telkom's spokesperson] Letlape.

Lol, "Hello police? Yes, um, I'm calling to report suspicious behaviour- Telkom credited my account. Yes yes, it is very suspicious isn't it?"

Actually the article is quoting dear old LooLooPoo @ Telkodemonopolies :), but yes, exactly what I was thinking [and recent experience after cancelling a business line & account - Telkodemonopolies refused to pass an EFT credit to the very same bank account it had been automatically debiting for years].

I'm curious to know if LooLooPoo is the only person to have been caught out by this fraud scam, and where do the fraudsters get a Telkodemonopolies customer's bank account details to fraudlently deposit a cheque??? - perhaps from Telkodemonopolies...

The official mouthpiece is correct. Telkom would normally only offer credit and debits on the existing account 'IF' they were found to be in error.

I wonder when last Lulu tried to phone 10210, probably long before semi privatisation when it was still answered timeously.

how are these "fraudsters" getting these customers info anyway? seems like another leak of Telkoms customer (private) data base.

Telkom is innocent on this one! Credit bureau’s and Bank’s give out info to any body now-a-days. Remember having to give all your personal info to the bank to ensure that your accounts aren’t frozen (govs. financial intelligence acts and all that bull), there’s the start of all your troubles, but hey, for those of us that questioned this as an invasion of privacy and possible future fraudulent trouble, we were told to leave our conspiracy theories at the door! Ha, and now!

While that's entirely possible, it's equally possible that Telkodemonopolies is hemorrhaging our personal information to fraudsters within Telkodemonopolies itself...interesting how LooLooPoo appears to have avoided mentioning whether an internal investigation is underway...

We shouldn't laugh it off, there should be a method by which an individual can check if, how, and by whom their credit status has been checked, and if it has been check without their direct, written permission, they should be able to sue the living cr*p out of the financial institution that gave out their info.

Yup, quite possible, but that would be one of a hundred different ways to get our personal info, one as likely as the other.

It would be in Lulu's interest to start an internal investigation to clear the company of any possible wrong doing, O ja wait I forgot, they don't give a sh*t!

Didn't you hear that LooLooPoo started an investigation 5 minutes ago, and Telkodemonopolies has already cleared itself of any wrong-doing...

Telkodemonopolies is not known for telling the truth and the whole truth [neither is LooLooPoo], so I caution against accepting 'the findings' of its own internal investigation as being 100% true, just saying that it's interesting how she avoided mentioning anything about any possible future or ongoing or past internal investigation...

Why should she have to? Telkom never does anything wrong

I still want to know if LooLooPoo is the only Telkodemonopolies customer to [so far] be affected by this fraud scheme - it's not like she mentioned how many customers have been caught out, so it could just be LooLooPoo herself...

Where does it say that she was a victim of the fraud? isn't she mearly commenting on it?

I'll probably be eaten alive for this  .. but here goes:

I do sometimes get the idea that this is forum is a just a tad bit pessimistic and ever so slightly biased against Telkom... :p
I'm no friend of Telkom.. but seriously .. it's not like they did anything wrong by warning their customers about some fraud scam... is it?

So why does everything always have to be turned into a Telkom bash session?
