Didn't they abandon this when they found out that internet was too slow, limited and expensive in SA?

These telcos never learn.

How many telcos have launched and failed at instant chat apps and mobile money?
Vodacom M-Pesa failed in South Africa,
MTN Mobile Money failed in South Africa
Does anyone bother with MTN Moya or Vodacom Vlive chat apps?

What these corporate's don't seem to realise is that unless your app reaches critical mass by delivering over and above the competition it will fail. I guess it keeps a bunch of IT developers employed even if they are wasting their time on white elephant projects.

Telkom employees must be smoking special stuff if they think their budget allows them to compete with the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, etc.

If they're going to do it, they should know better than to use the word 'Telkom' in the name. It's time for a rebrand.

MTN mobile money is being used in 15 countries. M-Pesa in 10. It's swings and roundabouts for them.
I agree though with the Telkom streaming sentiment.

Tyme Bank has 2.4 million clients so wouldn't call it a failure.

Local content over Telkom? Pure rubbish, but at least you'll never be able to watch it. On the other hand, who'd pay for that?

Waste of money and will fail.

Shareholders are against this, but still they go ahead.

Big mistake.

Something similar to the very successful Cell C Black?

Probably is with a bit of Quibi. Has the potential if the content and pricing is right but being Helkom it's doomed for failure.
