TelkomInternet not hard-capping its ADSL service

Mmmm, no telkom that is wrong....dont do it again...*wink wink*, slap on the fingers, and off you go..remember to be nice...that is all thats gonna happen, nobody that can make a change cares, if they do care, then they cant pay their sandton mansion or that newly bought plasma tv at a crazy low price of R 95 000,00, cause the salesman said it was a bargain...eish

Telkom was unavailable for comment.

There's a surprise for you!

Even if it is found that they have been party to uncompetitive behaviour, we will either see it brushed under the carpet or just blatantly explained away through what is now known as South Africa's 12th official language, spin.

No wonder TelkomInternet did not inform anybody about hardcapping - they never planned to hardcap their accounts.

This uncompetitive behaviour from Telkom SAIX (wholesale hardcap and retail softcap) is a cause of great concern. I hope the competition commission slams Telkom with a HUGE fine. Sort of like the "5% of Microsoft's turnover per year" fined recently by the EU commission.

On a side note: Congratualtions on another great news article Cara. I really enjoy your easy-reading, to the point, technical correct articles. You are invaluable to the whole MyADSL user forum. Post a link to your Kalahari online wishlist and I'm sure you will get everything you desire for Christmas. Same goes for our forum president RPM.

Telkom Internet don't have to hard cap they just have to pay SAIX extra if their total usage exceeds the amount their users have paid for.
That said, not hardcapping is a daft idea in the current situation as an ISPs profits on ADSL are primarily derived from users that pay for 3GB and only use 1 or 2.
It is possible that they don't care and that might be ammunition for Dotco, call them as a witness and ask them to explain their business model to the court.

the shareholders will find every way possible to **** the south african public over.

The email snapshots (follow the links), clearly show that Telkom is not hard capping. It mentions being switched to a slower international connection.

Anti-competitive behaviour for sure.

Pope24 - That is the whole point. Do you really think for one second TelkomInternet does not hardcap, but simply pay SAIX for all the bandwidth ( at R70 per GB) used above the allowed 3GB cap.

Say for instance that 1,000 of TelkomInternet's 10,000 ADSL clients use broadband for its intended purposes and clock 103GB per month with their 3GB account. Do you think TI will pay SAIX almost R7,000,000 per month extra ( 1000*100*R70) to cover the additional bandwidth used. Nope - didn't think so.

The reason is because they receive preferential treatment from the uncompetitive provider SAIX.

“TelkomInternet is not capping at all. I've done 44GB in 7 days and can still download Netscape from America,” said Ferreira.

They have No-Cap I have been able to download more than 10GB of international stuff with a 3GB account :)

I think it will be corrected soon.

Ditto ... it was a little 'rough round the edges' at times in the beginning, but Cara's latest articles seem to be very good.

It's amazing that out of the over 350 guests that are on MyADSL that not one of them is a legal person of some sort and willing to help out.

Also what is amazing is that no Telkom employees or insiders send any info about this to help out. PLEASE people send info to [email protected] - any mail received is 100% confidential - there is *nothing* to worry about so don't be afraid of Telkom suing you or firing you.

Ferreira also commented on the fact that the vat registration number for SAIX and TelkomInternet is the same. This begs the question as to the nature of the relationship between the wholesale and retail divisions of Telkom.
And those idiots at ICASA say SAIX is not part of Telkom and thus they can't regulate it.

Thats cause ICASA is lazy ass...........I HATE that we have to wait for something that should have been done already along time ago

How about dem apples ye'all

Being the same company and all, surely that puts Saix in the same boat as Telkom when it comes to regulation by Icasa, its just a division of Telkom.

Thanks Franna and Turtle.

Good to hear you enjoyed the article. I am still improving but thanks to all you guys on the forum I am learning new things daily.

I particularly enjoyed writing this article as it seems that Telkom are now well and truly in a 'pickle' ;)

Cara

The fricken ISPs are not standing together! Together they can give Telkom such a hiding in court it just isn't funny, but in their effort to backstab eachother they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces!

Come on ISPA!!!! Come on ISPs!

Tackle the devil by the horns!
