That is a very good question... but pricing on this service is paramount if they want it to succeed.

Guys... can I just say that this really moves me. Telkom has once again shown just how prolific they are.

This service was so meticulously planned and tailored with the future in mind, I am utterly speechless.

Even in my wildest dreams, I cannot imagine a world where the average business' bandwidth needs can come even remotely close to 2mbps. TWO MEGABITS. per second.

whats with all the promises these days, I understand that it is news, but it just seems like people are making up stuff to get mentioned,
Soon MTN is probably going to start talking about offering customer service or something and that might generate an article :/

Suspect very similar, if not the same, back-end technical architecture for the two services. The 'cloud' in both cases would be your ISP of choice. For broadband application (IP Stream) the layer 2 virtual pipe (over ADSL) from the customer's router would be cross connected to the ISPs Internet access capacity in their datacentre. For point to point application (Etherlink) the layer 2 virtual pipes (over SHDSL) from 2 sites would be cross connected to each other in the ISPs datacenter (either at Ethernet or IP layer).

Jip, and Telkom had a ADSL trial running in 2000. But cancelled the whole thing after a few months. A lot of companies lost a lot of money after importing equipment and training people to support it.

On 2005-11-01, a Telkodemonopolies representative announced that the de facto [fixed line] monopolistic beast's SHDSL service was soon to be available, more than 4 years later the beast is saying the same thing...

So if I understand correctly the price reductions etc are again going to depend on the ISP's

I am just wondering where "moggie" is -- seeing as I have been having an ongoing dialogue with him about this topic here on the forums........

Where I have heard from people that are already using this technology ( or what looks like the beginnings of it )
