This is beyond ridiculous :mad:

Kingsway Road in Amanzimtoti should become Andrew Zondo;

Broadway in Durban North should be named after Namibian liberation movement and ruling party Swapo

Higginson Highway should be named after the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

And then for the attitude to be this is even more ridiculous :mad:

Tempers flared during the vote on whether to continue the meeting, but when the ANC in its majority voted that the names be considered and discussed, the DA and IFP stormed out. Their departure was met with applause and chants of "goodbye".

Geezuz by all means, have the renaming process but leave names that mean nothing in the general SA context and names that offend out of it. Some consultation with the public would of been nice. :mad:
 
Fckn power trips are what they are on. And here I thought power trips were specifically reserved for Eskom.
 
Just looking at the names mentioned above ... What is wrong with the old names, firstly? They don't even bring to mind anything of the old SA. Second, wtf have the new names got to do with the new SA? Especially the second two - never heard of Swapo and I sure as heck object to naming a street after Arafat...

BTW, I don't live in Durban area ... but that's my 2c worth
 
And why does most of the names have to be black names? Not just this thread, in general. It seems that they are always changing it to black names. Why can't they just leave things the way they are? :mad:
 
And you're asking the poor tourists to try and pronounce these names when they visit in 2010? Well, never mind then, everyone that visits Durbs ... and who thought of that name eThikweni or whatever?
 
This renaming is just their way of biding time, and to detract from all the problems that exist in the country.
 
Next time you get a sad face at your car window with an outstretched hand asking for money...ask them what the government is doing for them!

People cant eat or live on fkin roadnames...people are suffering and they change road names.

Necessity: How about addressing what is needed, as opposed to what they WANT!!

Same like Zim, people are starving and they import weapons...the money must have come from somewhere....

"Blacks" dont hate whites and white things. Have a look around you and choose any "non-white" african, and then do a total search on his body, and count how many white versus black orginated things you will find on him. They dont hate white things.

Because the majority of the people who struggled and died fighting for the freedoms you now enjoy, were black, there were whites in the liberation struggle and many of them have also been honoured, think Joe Slovo, Ruth First, Beyers Naude, Nico Smith etc.

These are the same names they were proposing a year back when they did the first lot of changes, we knew they were coming. Joe Public who doesn't like this idea obviously didn't do SFA and the opposition parties are trying to create a fanfare for publicity. Too little too late unfortunately.
