Terminator 6 (sequel to T2)

Agree mostly (especially with Idris Elba though he's aging out of the role) but would add that Bond himself has been evolving with the times. He's gone from being a good 'ol boy smacking ladies' asses to being far more restrained in the casual sex department.

The real problem with a gender-swap is that female-led action movies don't make as much money. The recent Tomb Raider and Atomic Blonde had 2 of the best actresses around today and those movies barely made a dent at the box office. Ditto the Ghost in the Shell remake.
In all fairness Ghost in the Shell wasn't a flop because of a female lead. It was because you had Scarlett Johansson as a Japanese character.

But she's so hot right now.

No actress would have made that movie successful. We overstate the effect of internet hysteria on the box office...the people with agendas online don't make up a statistically significant portion of the cinema-going public. That's my feeling anyway.

Nope, film adaptations of anime never do well. The complaints of her playing a a Japanese character were from a vocal minority.

Batwoman has been a lesbian for ages...

Edit* Article says since 2006.

According to a few comments I've read some didn't know there was a Batwoman character already and believe they're turning Bruce Wayne into a woman and lesbian.

Too bad the new forum doesn't have Comic Sans for sarcasm.

You know that when the marketing focuses on the diversity of the cast rather than the merits of the movie itself that you are in for a stinker.

Ocean's 8 - received meh reviews
Ghostbusters - bad reviews

Why? Not because there is anything wrong with female leads in movies, but if that is the only thing your movie has going for it, you know it will be pretty weak.

Bonus point - movies that aim for the diversity marketing card don't make a lot of money anyway. Look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Made far less money than The Force Awakens. Solo was then a box office flop, and neither Ocean's 8 or Ghostbusters made a lot of money either. So despite SJWs clamouring for more "representation" in movies, they aren't willing to pay to go watch them.

Agreed, films like Wonder Woman did well because they had a strong female lead and strong supporting male actors, they also followed source material decently and didn't go full sjw.

All the movie remake mentioned above. I'm not watching the because of all women, but because it is just rehashing. The movies had their place in the decade they were released. Just like King Solomon's Mines, Sound of Music, Dirty Harry, Top Gun, Clerks, Footloose (the original), Grease, .......... even Spence/Hill movies (back when we didn't know better).

Just imagine if they tried to remake Breakfast Club? Ahhhh no they are thinking about it too.

100%...

The original is a very deep and complex movie, and the "remake" tried to gloss over most of that stuff, it was going to be a flop regardless of the lead actress.

Has nothing to do with a strong female lead or male. It was a decent enough story, the new Ghostbusters, it was bad, the Ghost in the Shell movie wasn't great either.
I don't care who the lead is as long as the movie is decent.

Ghost in the shell was pretty bad but the weight was on Scarlett and I personally don't think she can carry a movie. But yeah if the movie is decent it should do OK. Ghostbusters was a dumpster fire and the casting didn't help much either. If they'd put better actors in the role and tied it to the universe properly it might have worked. Their biggest mistake was doing a remake that no one asked for.

There are only 2 action movies. Terminator 2 (1991) and Mad Max Fury Road (2015)
