Test Cricket... dying a slow death?

sandmanm34, why in the world would the working class wanna goto a test game?

A test game would be like a full time job... long, boring and people would wait for home time... 4:30pm/5ish... *poof* gone ;)

Now thats why I a glad we all are diffrent ;)

I think Test cricket needs a couple of tweaks and it will draw the numbers again.

Tests ARE exciting!

In this test, we bowled piss poorly in England's first innings, and had to really fight to get back in the game. I don't know what happenned in our 1st innings but our second was really good to watch. They batted with a specific plan in mind. Mac was great at leaving almost everything outside off stump alone, I say almost becuase that is the way he got out.

But Test cricket separates the men from the boys. You can slog in 20 over cricket and get away with it, in the 50 over game it works to slog at certain points in the game. But in tests, you wont survive very long at all.

As a spectator, I love it. :)

Yeah love going to Centurion having a braai and a couple of beers and watching the cricket.

Watched WI vs SA in the beginning of the year :) (the ODI and 1 day of the test:D)

Now if only I had so many leave days available I could take 5 days to attend each day. :o

I know that they tried day/night first class cricket in Australia some years back, and it never worked.
SA played Aus in a couple of ODI's under a roof and it seemed ok.

Yea but they are trying it again now with a diffrent ball ect ect ect.
 
A lot of the same arguments here can be found in the argument against soccer posed by yanks.
Why play a game for 90 mins, and overtime!, only to have it drawn 0-0?
 
Test cricket is the purest form of the game - as someone said, it separates the men from the boys.

Gdiza, we are not Americans here who love everything fast and frantic. ;) That stupid American billionaire who is sponsoring the UK Twenty20 said that he doesn't "understand" test cricket. Well obviously - cricket doesn't really exist in the US :sick:

because you penalties and a result, so its only drawn up until 120 minutes, there after YOU WILL HAVE A WINNER

i think maybe if a 5 day game is drawn they should have a shoot out :p

what would you guys say is better:

A. century in the first innings of a 5 day game off 230 balls
B. century in a 50 over game off 102 balls
C. century in a pro 20 game off 52 balls

for me i think 100 off 230 balls does not seperate the men from the boys, it just shows some batsmen know to block a crap load

A. Of course. That isn't easy to do.
Remember, it's not all about batting.
B. Would be boring, unless it's a tricky wicket and a low score is being chased.
C. Would be good still, but forgettable.

Okay, to go back to my earlier analogy, which is better:

A. sub 2:09 marathon
B. sub 3:33 1500m
C. sub 10sec 100m?

They're different! Different contexts, different pressures and different skills.

You're welcome to your preference, of course.
