Testers Wanted - Netflix DNS Proxy

Test IP for now:

154.127.60.71

Simply set that as your DNS server and off you go.

Will only work for SNI devices like Roku, iOS, Browsers and any new devices that do SNI for the DNS handshake.

Any old stuff for NON-SNI is a no go unless I get some funding as I need to purchase 20-30 IP's to get it to work...

So no general adsl routers then?

I'm not sure I understand your question?

If you want to use my DNS for ALL your devices then enter it in your router. If you want to use it per device then only enter it in that specific device - or set a route as needed...

Is this currently only working for Netflix or are there plans to include other sites like Hulu, iPlayer, etc?

To Confirm, this DNS is only for Netflix and only Netflix USA Server?

What do you do with the rest of the DNS requests not going to the media services like Netflix, Hulu, Pandora.. etc. Do you redirect them through google DNS ? Also a question for the general security of all the users browsing habits. Through the logs you can see all the requests of users web browsers and devices. What they like and where they go.

You can also redirect the resolution of websites to other sites. SO yes the asking people to politely not attack your box is a good idea. Make sure fail to ban is on and logs written to /dev/null.

If you need an app, or system to allow for subscriptions i can write one for you.

Wasn't sure if a router would do the SNI protocol bit.

I'd like to see if I can get better speeds.

I have a PS3 and a Chromecast

Surely this wouldn't have a speed difference (apart from the latency on your original connection request).
It's a DNS proxy, not a VPN

I don't have a Hulu account but i've tried to add Hulu / Pandora / etc support. Best is to test and comment. US based stuff for now, no UK services...

I forward off to public DNS like Google. I don't log. I'm not bothered in people's habits - but if like me you're paranoid and want to make sure - then simply set the DNS on your specific media device and not worry e.g. its not network wide then etc. I'm always looking at locking down more etc and I don't log user requests. I don't see the point. I'm not interested in their usage.

Brilliant, users can be reassured! A lot of people will be able to experience a whole new media service ! Also really like that your proxy is on a local machine :) really cool !

Well the proxy itself is in the US as I need to be using a US IP to bypass etc. The DNS Server locally, which does the resolution sits at IS in JHB. So it should be faster for DNS queries than say Unotelly (if you use the DNS at a router level for all traffic).

I read this thread last night and thought I would give feedback. I have been living in London for 7 months now and one of the first things I when I got here was get netflix. Anyway, I have a friend back in SA who has really been wanting to use netflix, but she had no idea how to set it up.

Popped the DNS address into her browser for her this morning and she says its working perfectly. Anyway, she asked me to thank who ever set this up (jsheed_sa), so yeah, thanks dude!

Glad to help.

I'm sure this project will extend to different regions etc. So best to keep an eye on it from here and let me know what services people want / need. If I've got the funds to throw at it or if people are kind enough to donate, then I'm willing to adjust and make a plan.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

Edit: Updated first post with channels i've added. If you could please just mention what works for you and on which device you are using it.

Thanks,
