Testers Wanted - Netflix DNS Proxy

I have two connections, one is slow and uncapped, one is very fast, but capped. I want to route netflix through the uncapped connection.

Should be possible, depending on what CDN they use.

I would suggest you download Wireshark and do a dump to see where traffic goes. Myself I only cater for the authentication / geoip items. The connection to the CDN is made from your side so I don't have that routing...

Hi jsheed_sa.

Thanks a million for this. Currently running 2 Apple TV's, iPad and Mac pro through your proxy, and all is sweet with Netflix and Hulu.

How difficult will it be to make it work with HBO Nordic?

Thanks

Thanks for confirming the Apple TV's work. Most people tell me they have them but have never come back to confirm whether they work or not! Added them to the supported device list!

If you can give me test credentials then I can take a look.

Hi.

Netflix seems to be down this morning, any problems on your sidE? Other addresses are correctly found through the DNS, just not Netflix. Hulu is working through the Apple TV.

The problem is only on the Apple TV's, as I can access Netflix using my MBPro through your DNS.

They are standard Apple Tv 3's to be more specific.

Hi there

Firstly thank you for the DNS to use it is(was) working great.

My apple tv 3 stopped working.
I have reset the device.

First it was a week ago with netflix and now this weekend with hulu+
The HTPC still works connecting via browser and my country spoof-er.

But the atv stopped working with your DNS.
Netflix dont allow me even to sign in it just says it is down.
But I guess that would be a standard message in the Atv.

Could you please let us know if there was any changes recently why this would have happened.

It seems they've changed something. I'm not sure what but I can see that my Roku can only connect to 1 out of 3 Netflix servers. I'll have to do a tcpdump or play with Wireshark later to see where the issue lies. I'll try and take a look tonight if I have time.

Hulu was still working for me though? When last did you try?

Regards,

Thank You once again for all your effort it does not go unnoticed.
My Netflix stopped working last week Monday roughly.
Hulu stopped this weekend, I think Saturday evening was the last time I checked Hulu to be honest.

Hi,

I did some tweaking. Please confirm if both Netflix and Hulu are working.

Please also confirm which devices work / don't work for you.

Thanks

I have tested the service using a DroidTV MX android media player. Netflix is working perfectly but when clicking on Hulu Plus it returns with an SSL Error [143] Please verify your device's date and time settings are correct. I have tried to change them to Pacific date and time without success. Any ideas?

I'd assume your Netflix client is doing SNI and as such works. Whilst the Hulu client for your device is maybe older and doing a NON-SNI handshake?

The only Android device I have to test is a TV. I can try Hulu on that and let you know.

Any other Android users care to comment?

Appletv 3
Hulu was up last night but not Netflix.
I will see tonight again.

I don't see this being TOO bandwidth HEAVY. Realistically the only thing you're doing is letting the GEO IP restriction know that you're in the US.

All Netflix streaming / actual content comes down via the CDN (which doesn't have any GEO IP restrictions). So basically you auth via my DNS, then all bandwidth after that is at your cost etc as you go direct.

hmmm. Would be interesting to see. My understanding was that "dns" services like this actually redirect all a domain's traffic to a proxy...
Thats what I also thought. Surely all the streaming traffic has to go through your proxy server in the USA?

Anyway, this is a great initiative. I'm hectically busy this week, but on the weekend I will test on a Roku3, Samsung TV and Minix android box.

Nope. Confirmed is only the authentication etc that is proxied. The rest goes straight to their cdn...

Wouldn't the authentication be IP based. If the IP suddenly changes I would have thought the authentication would break ?
Hehe, they obviously aren't trying too hard to restrict us non-USA users. Our $$$ are just as good :D

Hi Just wanted to say thanks for this service it is appreciated. I use an android box Q7 but have no idea how to setup vpn on it. I just added the Ip to my routers dns but I guess that does not count. Gonna google now how to setup android vpn and will let you know. Thanks again!

@jsheed_sa - I tried your DNS last week with my WDTV Live and it did not work

Ok happy to report Netflix and Hulu is up and running on the Atv3.

Thank you for all the effort.
