Takealot's discounts tested

Online shoppers looking to score big bargains on Takealot should carefully consider the claimed discounts shown on its deals.

South Africa’s top online retailer offers Daily Deals and regular themed sales for certain categories of products.

A big eye-catcher on these promotional offers is the percentage of claimed savings relative to the standard list price.

Numerous MyBroadband readers have previously complained that this percentage was distorted by Takealot, as other retailers offered cheaper regular prices on the same products.

Takealot needs to hire a sniffer to go through the displayed adverts
People are getting ripped off sideways
For example, I took delivery today of a cheap blender for R405
Another Oke on TA sells the identical one for more than double

I also saw a supplier selling a lekker gas weber as well, now look at Builders Whorehouse price. Half the price

Technically it not sold by Takealot

Technically it is Takealot that is selling it
3rd party sellers are allowed to price their wares as they see fit, just as no one can tell you how many beers you are allowed to drink likewise no one is entitled to tell 3rd party sellers on Takealot what prices they charge.

I hope the beer analogy helped your understanding of this matter

No they are just fulfilling the sale.. they probably just get their cut.
And the majority of customers do not even know that
Hence when they get ripped off they are angry at Takealot

and that is the reason they use. I complained when people were price gouging FPP masks and their verbatim response was "We can't control what third parties charge on our platform"

Their reasoning is a BS attempt at passing the buck. Its their platform so they should take some moral responsibility. It does show they care more for the commission of the inflated sale than they do about their customer being ripped off.

Sorry but if a customer gets ripped off its the customers fault for getting ripped off. One can easily google prices
I don't think Takealot should have items for sale at a hundred bux and then also sell the identical same item at 200 bux

They need to clean their act up

Yup
As mentioned you gotta shop around
Gone are the days of Takealot been so affordable on most items

But, I still use them for their awesome delivery and their brilliant returns when you aren't happy or when an item breaks. Just for that, they score 10 out of 10 in my books.
For now

Agreed, but it would be a whole lot nicer if takealot were acting as a regulator of their own damn marketplace. Selling something at double the price is a bit kak.

(Imagine their site automatically finds the cheaper version on takealot and shows you in a popup or something...then lets see what happens to the price fixing)
