Texting while driving, this has to stop

Wow some high and mighty people in this thread. Leave the poor woman alone. We may not all text whilst driving but none of you ever broke the law in some small way?

LEAVE HER ALONE

Stop defending her lawbreaking. She's trying to commit suicide right there and then in the photos.

Let me guess - you regularly do the same?

I have said before I do not condone her behaviour. I do not do this regularly no. But I have done it, yes. And lets cut back on the drama a bit? If you are allowed to bring potential outcomes into play, I believe I am entitled to as well ;)

Really? Seeing as you are basing your actions on potential outcomes, did you consider she may have a family to support? That she may suffer from depression? That the economy sucks and she might struggle to find a job? That people have committed suicide after losing their jobs (yes, extreme I know, but you chaps are the ones bringing scenarios into play to justify actions :) )?
You're doing the same thing, defending her recklessness based on the notion that she might be fired, which given or labour laws is unlikely. The difference is that his 'what if' could result in death or injury, whereas yours doesn't.

Mine shows up the name and number on my dashboard and on my radio. I press a button on the radio (or indicator stalk) and it answers and goes handsfree.

This is a STOCK FEATURE in many upmarket cars, and I see people driving these cars with phones glued to their ears. WTF man? Are you too stupid to operate your damned car properly?
If you can afford a R200k car you can afford a R2k car kit, if it doesn't come standard.

Bloody darwin candidates.

You never specifically said you have never used a phone while driving? please could you confirm your response.

Bunch of keyboard ninja's, find something real to b1tch and moan about. This country has way more screwed up things to get upset about than something 99% of us all do

No, I am saying the potential punishment does not match the potential crime (in terms of likelihood of occurring), and I am also quetioning whether all those who are happy to see her lose her job are the glistening angels from heaven they must then be themselves, to pass such judgements.

In SA people are texting and chatting away and driving drunk like it's nobody's business, because they reckon they probably won't get caught anyway.

In countries where the police do what they are there for, the risk of getting caught doing the above is way too high, so way fewer people actually do it.

The real issue is why the cops can't be bothered.
So we should just sit around and wait for the police to wake up and decide to do their jobs? How much moaning has there been on this very forum calling for people to be sacked for failing to do their jobs, but suddenly its cool if it's a pretty woman blatantly breaking the law and endangering people.

Oh yes - the OP has also not responded as to whether he has never used a phone whilst driving. I would very much like to hear from him.

I have a feeling that the responses would be different if the photo showed someone in a gorilla suit instead of a hot chick.

It just really gets to me when there's a whole lynch mob so very proud of themselves for nabbing a texting driver.

Pretty much what I said at the beginning. But it's easy in hindsight for them to claim that their responses would be no different.

I saw this post, but it seems you are saying you are ok with it after doing what you did. I am asking if you considered it before you emailed.
Yes either way; for my part if there is ONE thing I would love to see less of, it's this.

Here's what may be a novel thought to you: how about NOT doing this and, I don't know, being a responsible driver instead? (yes that was snarky, disputatious contumely will be answered in kind)

@Spunky
Cut he commercials. Have you been in a accident when one of these beauties gets out of a car, snot and tears, screaming in a shrill voice "I didn't see him"? Pure Hollywood.

These beauties kill just as well as a gorilla.

O, and your argument that all of us trespass some or other time is totally correct.
Just remember the most important commandment is the eleventh: Thou shall not be caught.

If you get caught take the consequences.
Same as the blokes in jail: You cant do the time don't do the crime.;)

Yes, you are right. We should stop obeying the law because there is murder and rape occurring every day. That's going to make the country so much better, if we all break any rule we feel like, because there are more important things to do.

I'm going to punt my neighbours dog into a ravine because of its barking. But dont worry, there are more important things for the police to worry about.

And I'm going to be the guy that drives at 120 in a 60 zone. But dont worry, the cops need to be looking out for murderers, not me.

/sarcasm

What would you guys be saying if instead we had a news article about how a woman had hit and killed a child while she was texting, and someone from the forums said hey I know her, I saw her texting while driving the day before? You would all be saying, "Why didnt you do anything?"

Yeah hindsight is a wonderful thing. It's easy to take the high ground now that nothing has happened (yet), but if the sequence of events turned out different, then you would be painted as the villain.
