See, the bait that people are rising to is the statement around "has apple innovated anything new" - that problem's not unique to Apple - no one has innovated anything new - it's just tweaks all round.

Are you sure you're not conflating new/different subjective experience with innovative - I'm an Android carrier and when I used the wife's iPhone for a while, it felt revolutionary and innovative - then I realised it's just new and somewhat different (like Flipboard - then I got used to currents, now Flip feels jaded)

Yeah i tend to agree, just because it's different. You never know maybe after a couple of weeks I might hate the s3 and then go back to iOS.

So I had a Blackberry bold and always said the Iphone is crap because it doesn't have BBM and you have to pay for internet... then I got an Iphone 3gs, man was I wrong! From there I was only saying bad things about blackberry and how amazing everything is on iphone (browser, OS etc)

Was very hyped for the Iphone 5 and even argued with my Android buds how great it is. Sad to say but then they opened my eyes to what the Iphone 5 actually is. EXACTLY THE SAME AS MY Iphone 3GS - but with improved components - nothing new out of the box.

So happy to say that upgraded today to Samsung S3. Thanks Apple for showing me that nothing new can be done over 4 years (except for couple of software improvements)

Agreed, on the spec sheet the top end droids murder the iPhone's time and time again. But the iOS/hardware marriage results in a more fluid user experience, say what you like.

S3's very brittle actually. Think they taken a big step backwards in that regard. The 5 should be quite durable with its Aluminium rear.

I think your being bias, time will tell, sooner or later, time will tell.

iPhone does unfortunately have a bad history when going up against android devices with regards to durability

Also I've owned phone with metal casings and it's not always the best, you get life long dents and scratches while plastic can be flexible and provide some cushioning for the screen and internals.

I normally pouch my devices even before I charge them for the 1st time, especially the newer iPhones. It's frigging made of glass!!!

The biggest pity about the S3 is that they decided to make the screen even bigger. Pretty much made it a non-option for those of us who don't want to carry a tablet around.

That's my biggest gripe with it as well. It's no longer comfortable to carry around in my pocket, which is kind of important in a phone.

Yeah, 4.3 is the sweet spot, 4.5 is still okay, anything bigger is niche.

The one big unknown on the iPhone5 is the actual CPU/GPU speed. What I saw in the presentation is that it is something quite special. GPU in particular, the screenshots of Real Racing 3 - there aren't even any tablet games putting out those kinds of graphics yet afaik. And the flyover demo was brillo. They're just not bragging them off, as they never do actually talk up those numbers - I think it'll stand pretty much toe to toe with anything else though.

The best looking android games are tegra3 based. Nexus7 will be a much better gaming machine than the galaxy.

All phones are sensitive, that is why everybody buys an aftermarket cover/sleeve to protect their phones. The polycarbonate shell of the S3 is exceptionally strong and allows for awesome wi-fi connectivity. That said however, any phone regardless of build quality can shatter when dropped "correctly".

Jip, my iphone 4 was dropped a couple of times, on many surfaces including concrete and from various heights, without issues (barring a couple of scratches on the protection cover). Then recently I dropped it from by bedside table (what is that, 80cm maybe?) onto laminated flooring, hit the floor an angle where the cover is recessed on the top end of the glass cover - and complete shattered.
