I'd just like to officially thank WebAfrica for keeping me awake at night.

I received 14 texts between 2:45am and 3:45am this morning, which after ignoring them for half an hour, just kept coming and waking me up.

I DO NOT need to know that my ADSL bandwidth is below 0.4GB at 3am on a Sunday morning! Nor do I need to know it every 2 minutes for over half an hour.

I've always loved WebAfrica, but now they messed with my sleep. I'd divorce my wife for doing something as horrific as that, so changing ISPs seems pretty straightfoward right now.

Please could someone in WA Support Team recommend a good sleeping tablet? It's now 5am and I can't get back to sleep.

Thanks.

Thats nothing, I received 21 messages Tuesday night and 18 messages Wednesday night from Vodacom telling me that data costs will now be abducted from your call account.

*sinister voice* We have your data charges. Do not contact the police. Put one million rand in a paper bag and wait for further instructions. I repeat, if you contact the police or the authorities we will kill your data charges.

He probably has an awesome headache today.

Which is his own fault to be honest.

Who added his cellphone number for sms notifications in his control panel? Who chose when to be notified and at what bandwidth amount?

If he received the same sms a few times, then it might be a mess up at WA sms server or even his Cellphone Network.

I get the same smses a few times from some people as well, it's just my network that's stuffed.

If you are a rep for a company, then I would recommend applying for an official title and signature. I wouldn't send any details to anyone with it.

AFAIK, none of the WA employees on the forum have a rep title.

By giving out your client code, you really don't face too much of a security risk as someone still has to guess your password.

similar to the forum, your username/nickname is public.....

Yep yep yep ;) :D :p

The problem is that the system is automated, and once you reached you warning limit (that you yourself have set in your control panel) it has no choice but to SMS and warn that you are nearing your limit.

However, that said, they can maybe only send out a SMS for every 100/200/500Mb (let the customer decide) you go over your warning threshold.

We will be peeved if no SMS warns us, but also we will be peeved by receiving 10 SMS withing 15min reminding us that we are nearing our cap.

Absolutely. Usually this is one sms at the given time. Perfect.

The problem was that they came at 2:45am. Or should I say, STARTED at 2:45am. Then just kept coming every 2 minutes - the exact same SMS (for being within 0.4GB of my cap).

This service, and the way I have set mine up, has never given an issue in the past - this is the first time.

I have done as requested.

Would have been an awesome day if I wasn't awake from 3-9am.

put your phone on silent at night - your own fault. (I would have switched it off after the first SMS)

I use both WA and Axxess. WA use realtime sms's for notifications. Axxess sms's only come through after 8am. Easy solution, I just use the email notifications for WA instead of SMS.

Its no use whining when there is already a solution available to you.
The email notification for Webafrica is recent (about a year or so), they've always had the sms notifications.

I hate whiners!!

Oh right, of course, how could we all miss it - it was OBVIOUSLY all my fault! My HUMBLEST apologies WebAfrica for wronging you and possibly harming your brand by bringing up my frivolous problems.

Not that I care much for dignifying your post with a response, but here goes:

My alarm would not go off in the morning if it was on silent. I have not tested whether my phone automatically turns on for the alarm so that wasn't an option in my half-asleep state either.

As I stated before - I have used this service for a couple years without a single problem. I have no problem with the service. Let me say it again, I have NO problem with THE SERVICE.

Now, to state again again, my problem with this whole situation was the multiple texts I received every couple of minutes at an obscene hour of the morning. One text at 3am would have been fine. A second one by mistake would have been fine. 8...9...10...etc .... not fine.

Going completely off topic: All the phones (Nokia) I had turns on the alarm when on silent. Many of them even turn on the alarm if the phone is switched off. Try it.
