Thanks WA

Some more off topic: Yeah Nokias are leet in that sense. I own a HTC with Windows Mobile 6.1.....if its on silent, its on silent. No alarms, no meeting reminders no nothing. Pretty sad if you ask me.

put your phone on silent at night - your own fault. (I would have switched it off after the first SMS)

Thats not really a solution , as Dean said he relies on his mobile phone alarm. Aside from that in general some business people are required to keep their phones on 24/7. As a paying client no one should be inconvenienced that way, and its really not his fault. While you may not be expecting important calls at that hour and can afford to switch your phone off or put it on silent, the same does not apply to everyone else.

May I ask which HTC? I'm running a Touch Pro with 6.1 here and it has an option that allows you to have the alarm ring while the phone is on silent, you can enable or disable it. Let me know if you're running a Touch Pro or Diamond and I'll send you a PM on how to change that option.

There is actually something worse than a whiner and thats someone who whines about whiners.

I also can't put my phone on silent and would have been furious if I had received so many SMS's at that time of the night.

Web Africa is really slipping big time lately. Very sad.

Not true. I whine only about whiners. Whiners whine about everything.;)

Whiners about whiners.... about whiners

To those who are saying they hate whiners.

I am a complete supporter of WA. I've been using them for years, and have signed many of my clients to them (as pointed out, another reason I don't put my phone on silent). I recommend them to anyone looking for an ISP, and have done so on many ocassions.

With good, comes bad. Just as I praise them as much as I do, I feel well within my rights to criticize them where its deserved. In my eyes, they really inconvenienced me and what happened was completely unnecessary.

If you're offended by people complaining justifiably about their ISPs, then I suggest you stop reading this board. If you take a look at the link you clicked to get here, it was called "ADSL ISP Discussions". If you then read through some of the previous threads (maybe 1000, 2000 or so) you'll notice that this is relatively common. Makes sense when you think about it, doesn't it?

Hi Guys

If anyone is still experiencing problems with the sms notifications or any additional queries can you please provide me with your details via pm and we would definitely assist with your query?

Do you work for WA? No real indication of that in your post...

Not having problems anymore besides for the fact that I've heard nothing since Sunday. No explanation for what happened yet... still waiting to be contacted (assuming that's going to happen at all...)

Hi Dean

I sent you a pm providing you with feedback. Our developers have resolved the concern and they assure us that this incident will not occur again.

Have an excellent day ahead... :-)

And that is why I choose WA. Everyone makes a bugger up, but not everyone fixes it like they do. :)

I use both WA and Axxess. WA use realtime sms's for notifications. Axxess sms's only come through after 8am. Easy solution, I just use the email notifications for WA instead of SMS.

Its no use whining when there is already a solution available to you.
The email notification for Webafrica is recent (about a year or so), they've always had the sms notifications.

I hate whiners!!
Until somebody hacks your account at 8:00pm and you dont realise until 8:00am that all your bandwidth is gone (unless your using WA's port locking of course but still)

A little OT, but is anyone here signed up to the FNB banking SMS facility? This is the one where they send you an SMS if any transactions go through on your bank account.

It seems that if someone transfers to me from another bank, the transaction goes through at 2-3am in the morning.
A couple nights in a row I have been woken up with smses...
I still want the smses in general, so I have resorted to turining my phone off every night (which is a pain).

Anyone experience this and have any ideas how to stop the smses from coming at that time?

Thanks

I know a bit about this. What happen is, there is a big system behind transferring money from one bank to another. Basically what happen is, every bank will queue up all the transactions they have from them to lets say ABSA. Then right at the end of the day they will calculate all of it, and send it in one big fat value to said bank instead of doing every transaction individually. This saves somewhat on computing time, but of coarse now what happen is, either when you pay someone at another bank or receive money from someone with another bank, this will happen during night time.

FNB actually happened to send you the SMS at the time they received the information that someone sent you money. If you send someone else money they send you the SMS immediatly regardless of whether they will only send the money to that bank during sleeping hours.

The whole idea about the SMS's FNB send is to know the exact moment something happens to your account. If someone was sending money from my account (not going into how they could) then I would like to know the moment it happens so that I can get on the phone with my bank and ask them to fix it. So my guess is, what you asking for is a bad thing, although for you it could be nice to have the time scheduled when they send the sms.

Response

Thanks WA for sorting out the problem - on time as usual.

Well,
A) If someone was sending money from my account, maybe that would warrant waking me up at 2am (incase my account was hacked etc)... but ALL of the smses I receive are for receiving of payments... hardly useful at 2am to know that someone just paid me R600.
There must be a way to filter "receipts" of payments until the morning as those are not required immediately
B) Even if I get the sms at 2am in the morning, could I really call the bank then and complain had it been fraud? I'd probably have to wait till the morning anyway before getting hold of the bank

So yet again, I don't see the point in getting an sms at 2am (last night I got 6 smses :(((

Safwaan. 15 posts, and wants your details:eek:

Exactly. He still hasn't told me who he is and who he works for, nor has he made any comment/response when I tell him this.

I'm assuming from his private message that he does work for WA, but I still refrained from giving him any details, and I hope that everyone else does the same until its confirmed that he isn't a 64 year old Nigerian con artist waiting to steal our bandwidth :)

I apologise for my signature not being added.

Please inform me if you experiencing any difficulties regarding DSL in future?
