The 200,000+ km thread

Nothing other than routine work at this stage. It's my 4th RS. First and second both sold at around 198k km also with no major work.
Damn that's impressive for a high performance car like that to not have anything major go wrong. I wanted to get me a Clio RS but got a bit scared because of the reliability concerns, seeing your post makes me regret giving that up

My second one was a Clio 3 RS. All others have been various versions of the Megane 2 RS.

In terms of fun, the Clio 3 was the best of the bunch. One of the few cars I've had that I actually miss...
 
Am I the only one that thinks 200 000km on a Electric motor isn't impressive at all.
Technically a combination of electric and petrol... it's the i3 REx ( fuel gauge on the left). Also, considering the dubious reliability of some of Tesla's drive units, 200 000 km is not bad.

Some of Tesla's drive units barely made it past 50k km on some earlier model S I think it was.
 
Geez, would have never thought, considering its so much simpler that combustion engines.
They do still suffer from heat and friction, I think it was something linked to weather sealing that allowed moisture in or the main bearings failed due to being under speccd, relatively cheap fix itself but it requires the motor to be dropped out and that's costly.

So they just cheaping out? We replaced the enormous ww2 era motors on some of out machines that we still run (great big multi spindle lathes) with tiny little modern motors with less than half the rated power, we push them a bit to make them work and they run flawless and maintenance free year in year out, was really impressed by them.

I've seen one of those old motors develop so much torque it twisted its own 80mm shaft.:ROFL:

Pretty much, if I recall correctly it boiled down to either size or duty cycle of the bearing being under speccd, it was subsequently rectified and most affected engines were replaced under warranty.

And still if all you have to worry about is a bearing or 2 then damn you got a reliable motor.
 
My dad's 2002 Hyundai Elantra 1.6 GLS is sitting at around 312 000 km engine unopened still cruising along. What a champion car.
