The 200,000+ km thread

Update: My Corolla now sitting at 240000km and still trouble-free:cool: (Everything still original). The Polo is now at 202000km (Clutch, Water-pump, Stabiliser bars, tie-rod ends, shock mountings and the gasket that separates the chainbox (I think that's what is called) and engine has been changed.
The 9n polos were almost bullet proof.one I had is still running, hardly anything but services and I think a power steering hose that developed a leak.new ones are temperamental

My 2014 Honda Civic hatch is now on 230 000km. Bought it in 2020 with 130 000km.
I had to replace a clutch two years ago, but other than that is has been flawless. though it has been badly neglected.
I had it serviced this past weekend and the oil was bad. I will start taking good care of it from now on.

Please do at least 8- 10 000km oil services or every 12months

We had three in our family, largely solid but both the petrol 16's had coil pack issues, otherwise were bullet proof for over 20 years with normal wear and tear type stuff. My Sportline PD130 never gave a days issue but I only kept her for 6 or 7 years, I still miss that car, so much fun.

9n bullet proof? Power steering issues, electrical issues with windows. Things as simple as the cup holder shooting out of the dashboard

Now if that was a French car with the same issue, it would be a different story :).
1 issue on a French car and it's those damn French cars, on a Polo it's bullet proof

My family really didn't have many of the more common issues other than the coil pack issue and my TDi had the turbo recall. My parents 2004 16 was sold to WBC last year after 21 years of ownership, a bit worse for wear as it had been parked outside almost permanently the last 17 or 18 years on the North KZN coast.

I don't recall power steering being a common issue on 9n's, window regulators were common on just about all VAG car's of the era, as were the stupid plastic impeller water pumps and bloody coil packs. Cosmetically that rubber like coating on interior panels never lasted long and started to look crap.

Yeah forgot that water impeller, mine disintegrated and cost R1600 in 2009 to replace, just the part alone.
That rubber was terrible came off everywhere :(.
Yeah the power steering would just pack up, sometimes mid drive, could be the pump or the sensor.
Also when taking it a few people had issues with air con, which mine did pack in about 2 years later, compressor just died.

Nah it was a VAG :). Never understood the love for them. I loved my Astra, I loved my Clio. The Polo was just a bad buy. Though it was a nice Blue

I am a bit of a die hard VAG fan  Luckily I haven't had many issues on mine over the years, nothing major anyway and besides my MkVII Golf, all of them were second hand. My MkI Golf wouldn't start this last weekend but she has been in storage and not driven for probably 18 months now...

Me too, never had an issue with polos and golf’s (g6&7 gti and g6 1.6tdi) except one injector for the 1.6tdi golf and now Audi. The only issue I had was faulty maf sensor (replaced myself with R300 part from Audi) and dpf (removed and remapped) and loosing coolant, ended up being water pump, replaced for R3k, and now the only issue is the sagging headliner.

You've had no issues, but you list issues ;-). Perception goes along way, someone with say a Renault says the same thing and people will go oh but that's French cars for you ;-).

The difference with a French car is you have to scrap it if there are issues. Colleague had a c2 that was parked at the office for a year with bad turbo. Scrapped.

Nope you don't need to scrap it, just once again a perception thing. Funny thing is when someone says they never had a problem with a French car, you'll have others say they never had a problem with a German one, but list various issues ;-).
Turbos in general are a problem for a few brands, not just French. A friend of mine waited 9 months for one for his Audi.

The problem with french cars are they are imported, vw is manufactured locally but even the ones that arent there are sufficient numbers for parts to not be an issue, so parts are easy to get. I'm on 230k with no turbo issues. I think its people who dont change their oil that have turbo issues.
