One thing I like about wir leben autos is they have been using electric power steering for a long time. Unfortunately my PooJoo does not have electric power steering and there is something not lekker with it when cold.

Some year models of the same car I have apparently also have aluminum and I have the option to fit it now, but the workshop guy told me they are more hassles than it's worth with warping, dents and overtightened bolts being more of a concern than with a steel one.

Keep in mind I stayed meters from the ocean for years so I don't think what happened to mine is that common.

I had the same issue with my C220 cdi Merc (550 000km and counting) but with that mileage no one is interested, so I just kept it. Useful to have a spare, used it when the other one was in for panel beating etc. A couple of friends used it to at various times, and at the moment it’s on permanent loan to a friend who’s hit a rough patch.
 
Great Scott! That's some impressive mileage from the C220 motor.

The older Mercs were quite hardy. Think of how many W124s are probably still on the roads these days. I still want one with the 5pot turbodiesel motor in :love:

Yep, those 270CDI motors could light up the tires if you stomp on it. I recall reading that when CAR reviewed the W203 270CDI.
 
Mobil One. That’s what the agents were using, and it is pretty good oil. Average mileage between services is between 25 000 and 30 000km.

Mercs are really hardcore.

Reminds me of my Father in law W202 C180 that is currently sitting on 335 000 and he hardly services that. I honestly wonder how that engine is still running.

I am afraid the day i get a service kit for that motor and remove the spark plug.

Friend has one and it sitting at over 360 000km and still running.

Still hasn't given me any issues needs rear suspension bushings to be done (never been done before). Will post a pic tomorrow when i go home.

Other cars in the family:

2012 C180 Merc- 220 000km
Mazda 2- 200 000 km
2011 Nissan Tiida- 227 000 km (i know of 2 amongst my friends that are sitting on over 330 000km and going strong)
2000 Polo Playa- sold it at 360 000 km
